Chiefs coach Andy Reid hasn’t addressed retirement rumors much in recent years, and apparently it’s because that option isn’t on his radar any time soon.
The 65-year-old coach led the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl title in three seasons back in February, and even after the game he subtly told media that he wasn’t ready to retire.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt was asked by Pro Football Talk if he feels like Reid could retire soon.
“I really don’t,” Hunt said. “And I hope I don’t for a long time.”
The conversation of Reid’s retirement doesn’t even really come up in their chats either, Hunt noted.
“That’s never come up in my conversations with Andy,” Hunt said. “As I see Andy, he remains incredibly energized and excited. He’s all about the Kansas City Chiefs and trying to get us back to the playoffs and win another Super Bowl. I think he has as much energy and passion as I’ve seen in the 10-plus years that he’s been with us.”
Reid is currently the third oldest active NFL coach, behind Seattle’s Pete Carroll and New England’s Bill Belichick.
Reid has worked with the Chiefs since the 2013 season. Before that, he coached the Eagles from 1999–2012.
