Chiefs offense details plans during the bye week to prepare for the Divisional Round

The Kansas City Chiefs will watch this weekend’s Wild Card Round and await an opponent for the Divisional Round at Arrowhead Stadium. The AFC top seed will have had essentially multiple weeks off since their primary starters didn’t play in the Week 18 season finale, providing ample time for the coaching staff to tweak the offense.

“They know that it’s their job, number one. Number two, they have to stay prepared whichever way it goes, and they do a good job with that; it’s important,” said Nagy during his press conference last week. “I mean, this entire time as they go through this process, they know that, too if they’re not playing, it’s their role too to become another coach and be there. Then also, you have to be ready, too.”

Nagy has his hands full personally with potential head coaching opportunities as his name continues to emerge amongst multiple teams. The New Orleans Saints and New York Jets have publicly invited him for an interview, but he remains focused on Kansas City’s offense before the postseason.

“You never know how things go in the game, and if you’re up and you’re suited and ready to – that’s why I think like sometimes as you go through this process,” said Nagy, “the mental challenge and the hurdles of preparing all week, you can’t let that slip. You’ve got to prepare and keep it the same, and I think that’s very important for these guys.”

The Chiefs offense hasn’t had the breakout performance they are used to from previous seasons, but the team was still able to set a franchise record with 15 wins during the regular season.
