Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy claims that rookie WR Skyy Moore will get more opportunities moving forward.
After playing over a dozen snaps on offense in Week 1, Moore was relegated to just two offensive snaps and no targets in Week 2. It was a disappointing backslide for many of the fans that expected the second-round draft pick to carve out an early role on offense in Kansas City.
Asked about the lack of playtime for Moore, Bieniemy says that the coaching staff needs to do a better job giving him opportunities.
“You know, Skyy (Moore) is doing a heck of a job for us,” Bieniemy said. “We’ve just got to make sure that we’re getting him in and giving him more opportunities to do the things that we know he’s capable of doing. I love the way he works. Obviously, he didn’t play as much (in Week 2), but moving forward I guarantee you he gets more than two snaps throughout the course of the season because the kid brings a lot to the table.”
It’s possible that the short week of preparation ahead of the Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers played a role here. Bieniemy says the Chiefs know what Moore is capable of doing on offense, it’s just a matter of getting him in there and getting the ball to him. Part of it is finding a balance between offense and special teams according to Bieniemy.
“Obviously, he’s doing a great job on special teams,” Bieniemy said of Moore. “But also too, it’s time for us to make sure that we’re allowing him to be the player that he needs to become as a receiver as well.”
Expect a concerted effort moving forward to manufacture some opportunities and touches for Moore on the offensive side of the ball. Those opportunities could come as early as this week when the team hits the road to face a winless Indianapolis Colts team.
