The Kansas City Chiefs continue to look at ways they can improve the 90-man offseason roster at the onset of training camp.
According to the NFL’s personnel notice for Tuesday, the Chiefs brought in former New York Giants OL Jake Burton for a tryout. Burton (6-6, 312 pounds) signed with New York out of Baylor as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2021 NFL season. He spent the entire offseason with the Giants before he was released during 53-man roster cuts.
Burton originally began his college career at UCLA, where he appeared in 29 games with 23 starts at right tackle. When the PAC-12 initially decided to cancel their season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Burton entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer. He eventually landed at Baylor where he made the switch to guard.
This spring, Burton played in the USFL where he played in nine games and started eight games at tackle for the Philadelphia Stars, including the USFL championship game.
Kansas City continues to face depth issues at the offensive tackle position with two players on the active/PUP list and Orlando Brown Jr. not reporting to camp on time. It’s not a surprise to see them leaving no stones unturned if even only to have some names for their call list should there be an injury during training camp or the preseason.
