Chiefs hosted Alabama WR John Metchie III on top-30 visit

The Kansas City Chiefs have done a significant amount of work on the wide receiver class for their top-30 visits this year.

According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, the Chiefs are one of half a dozen teams to have hosted Alabama WR John Metchie III on a top-30 visit. The other teams include the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Kansas City has already hosted six receivers on top-30 visits this year, including Metchie’s teammate Jameson Williams.

Like Williams, Metchie’s visit to Kansas City likely hinges on his medical status. The slot receiver tore his ACL in the SEC title game and needs to be cleared by the Chiefs’ training staff in order to be selected in next week’s draft. Metchie has about a month on Williams in terms of his recovery, meaning he should see the field sooner than later. There’s a chance that he could be ready to return at the onset of the season.

Metchie (5-11, 187 pounds) was an extremely productive player prior to his injury, recording the third-most receiving yards in the FBS over the past two seasons (2,058). The big-play threat has a penchant for collecting yards after the catch, recording 96 catches for over 1,100 yards and eight touchdown passes last year. He’s not the fastest or most explosive receiver in this class, but he’s a polished route-runner who excels at getting open in the middle of the field.
