Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury update following Friday practice

Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided media members with his Friday post-practice injury update.

After his third consecutive day listed as a non-participant in practice, Reid officially ruled out Chiefs WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, who is still dealing with a concussion. He also ruled out CB Chris Lammons, who also is dealing with a concussion, but was spotted back out at practice on Friday. Everyone else will have a chance to play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night.

“As far as the injuries go, JuJu (Smith-Schuster) will be listed as out, as will Chris Lammons,” Reid said. “Everyone else was up and ready to go.”

Reid added that “both are a little different” in terms of where Smith-Schuster and Lammons are at in the return to participation protocol. He did say they’re both “close.” We’ll see if anything changes next Wednesday when the team returns to practice.

Reid also provided an update on Mecole Hardman, who was placed on injured reserve on Thursday. As of right now, Reid does expect Hardman to return at some point this season.

“I think it’ll probably end up being short-term, but we’ll just see how he feels,” Reid said. “Right now, I’d probably tell you short term.”

Hardman is required to miss a minimum of four games while he is on injured reserve. Reid declined to comment on the specific nature of what Hardman is currently dealing with.

“I don’t have anything for you there,” Reid said. “He’s just got to get through this.”

With Hardman on injured reserve and Smith-Schuster ruled out, Reid spoke on the depth at the wide receiver position.

“You’ll probably see the same type of rotation that we had last week or similar to that,” Reid said. “Having those guys in — (who were in) the second half — that’s probably who you’ll see. It’s good for those guys, though.”
