Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides crucial update on Super Bowl Hero’s injury status

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially going to be without their Super Bowl LVIII hero, according to the latest update. Head coach Andy Reid addressed the media on Wednesday sharing a grim report on wide receiver Mecole Hardman.

“Yeah, we’ll probably put him back on IR (Injured Reserve) there,” said Reid in reference to Hardman’s availability as his practice window was coming to a close. Divisional game standout Nikko Remigio is expected to continue his role in Hardman’s place for the remaining games.

The former Pro Bowler has been on injured reserve since Week 14 of the regular season after suffering a knee injury, and his status was in question going into the postseason. The surgery he underwent hasn’t healed quickly enough for him to be considered a realistic option for the remainder of the playoffs.

He finished his 2024 season with 12 catches for 90 yards and one touchdown, tallying 115 offensive snaps and 73 special teams snaps. He was a veteran presence in the wide receiver room while contributing efficiently on special teams as the primary returner.

If Hardman’s played his last snap with the Chiefs going into free agency this offseason, he will always be remembered for the game-winning touchdown in the 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers in last year’s Super Bowl.
