Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides an update on Nick Bolton, Jerick McKinnon

The depth of the Kansas City Chiefs has been a strength throughout the season following injuries to starters on both sides of the ball. General manager Brett Veach’s additions in the offseason and decisions on the roster composition have proven vital this season.

Drue Tranquill and Clyde Edwards-Helaire have seen an uptick in usage due to injuries to Nick Bolton and Jerick McKinnon. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update on the two veterans missing from the lineup during his Zoom press conference with reporters on Monday.

“Yeah, I think we’ll be able to get some work from Nick (Bolton). I mean, he’s wanted to go here, even before this, though, but we’re just trying to make sure he’s right for that,” Reid explained. “Then (Jerick) McKinnon, his groin’s bothered him, for a bit, he’s kind of pushed through it, and it’s just it was at the point where he was gonna have a hard time you know, working at the level he wants to work out there so and be safe on that.”

McKinnon has been a threat in the passing game during his tenure with the Chiefs because of his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes. Bolton is the leader of the linebackers’ room and hasn’t had the fortune of good health all season with several nagging injuries.
