Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is connected to almost every head coach involved this year’s postseason and has influenced Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills. The many matchups over the past few seasons have seen Kansas City undefeated against Buffalo in the postseason, but Reid doesn’t take the battles for granted.
“No, other than you kind of look at the tape. He’s (Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott) looking at our games against them, and we’re looking at our games against them,” said Reid during Wednesday’s press conference. “You see all that (and) you kind of get an idea that we’ve played each other quite a little bit.”
The Chiefs are the fourth reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions to reach the Conference Championship game, joining the 1992-93 Dallas Cowboys, 1988-89 San Francisco 49ers, and 1974-75 Pittsburgh Steelers. If they win on Sunday against the Bills, who already have a win over Kansas City from the regular season, they can be the first to return to the Super Bowl.
“You’re going to always give each other a different look. It’s like (Bills Defensive Coordinator) Bobby (Babich) either; he does a heck of a job with it, too. As (Offensive Coordinator) Matt (Nagy) does and (Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo) Spags. The coordinators are the ones putting things together and making it go, and then (Bills Head Coach) Sean (McDermott) and I get to stand and watch there.”
Reid secured his 300th career victory as a head coach in the divisional round. He constantly adjusts his game plans, as the matchups with Buffalo often have a different energy than typical games throughout the year.
