Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the media following the victory, focusing on the performance of veteran third-down running back Samaje Perine.
According to Reid, Perine received an incredible lateral from Travis Kelce to keep a drive alive that he didn’t expect or practice since joining the Chiefs before the start of the season. Kansas City’s head coach also pointed out a missed opportunity from the former Cincinnati Bengals standout.
“Yeah. Welcome to the crew there. He (Perine) had another one where I was told those guys keep running because when Pat (Patrick Mahomes) starts moving around, you got to stay on the run,” said Reid. “He got caught kind of pulling up thinking the play was over. And that’s pretty amazing with that ball. So, it’s a good lesson to learn. But then he came back and did a nice job on that play.”
On Monday night, Perine was utilized along with Kareem Hunt and Carson Steele and finished the game with one reception for 24 yards. He gets consistent snaps in the offense and is often viewed as another reliable receiver out of the backfield.
