Chiefs had pre-draft meeting with Pitt WR Taysir Mack at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

It’s the time of year when we’re beginning to hear about draft prospects meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pittsburgh QB Kenny Pickett is one of the top prospects at his position in the 2022 NFL draft and the Chiefs are taking an interest in one of his top targets. According to the Draft Network’s Justin Melo, the Chiefs are one of the teams that met with Pittsburgh WR Taysir Mack at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in late January. Mack also drew interest from the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and New York Giants.

Mack transferred from Indiana to Pittsburgh as a sophomore and spent four seasons with the Panthers. Over the course of his career at Pitt, he amassed 138 catches for over 2,000 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging nearly 15 yards per reception.

Listed at 6-2 and 190 pounds, Mack has made a college career out of being a quarterback’s best friend. He needs just the slightest bit of daylight to be declared open and has made some incredibly acrobatic catches, displaying elite ball-tracking skills and body control throughout his college career. Mack also plays special teams on the coverage units which is always something that the Chiefs are looking for.

Mack is likely to be a Day 3 draft pick or priority undrafted free agent. It’s worth noting that Kansas City signed Mack’s former teammate, Maurice Ffrench, following the 2020 NFL draft. They seem to like receiver prospects from Pitt.

Remember, the Chiefs are going to meet with a lot of players during the pre-draft process and it doesn’t always denote interest. The majority of prospects will have some sort of meeting with all 32 teams ahead of the draft. It’s part of the fact-gathering process that goes into these teams crafting a draft strategy.
