Chiefs GM Brett Veach provides injury update on CB Rashad Fenton

Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach spoke to media members on Tuesday morning to recap a long draft weekend.

In doing so, Veach revealed some news on an injury that hadn’t previously popped up before. Fourth-year CB Rashad Fenton, who dealt with a back injury that kept him out of some games late last year, is currently rehabbing from a surgical procedure done this offseason.

“Fenton is a guy that we’re obviously very high on and very confident in,” Veach said. “He’s going through a little bit of a rehab now, so hopefully we get him for the start of training camp.”

Elaborating on the injury, Veach said that he believes it’s a shoulder injury and reiterated that they’re hopeful he’ll be ready to play by training camp.

“I think it’s a shoulder,” Veach said. “I’m sure Rick (Burkholder) will talk about that either after OTAs or before. It’s something that — I think he’ll be ready for training camp, but we certainly want to get some guys out here and be ready to roll. (We want to) be in position to kind of know what we have (at cornerback).”

Ultimately, this injury did play a factor in how aggressive they were to add to the cornerback position via the draft and to go out and trade for Texans CB Lonnie Johnson Jr. just a day ago. The team is currently preparing for all possibilities and ensuring they have the depth to field a competitive unit.
