Chiefs fans were not happy that officials missed what they claim should have been an offsides penalty on Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in the Dolphins’ 28-27 loss to the Titans on Monday Night Football.
The drama started on Sunday night. With less than two-minutes to play and the Chiefs trailing the Bills 20-17 in the prime time clash, referees assessed Kansas City wide receiver Kadarius Toney with a penalty for his late-game blunder.
The officials’ decision to penalize Toney came after Mahomes completed a pass to tight end Travis Kelce, who then made a risky spur-of-the-moment play by tossing a lateral to Toney. The high-risk play resulted in Toney finding his way to the end zone before the touchdown was taken back.
Just as controversy surrounding Toney's penalty was finally settling down, a referee's decision on Monday night added new fuel to the fire. During Miami's matchup against Tennessee, Waddle’s foot was shown stepping on the line of scrimmage, which should have resulted in an offsides penalty. But this time, the referees didn't throw a flag.
After watching the officials miss Waddle’s alleged offsides penalty, Chiefs fans did not shy away in their reactions on social media. Meanwhile, non-Chiefs fans also reacted to the moment, saying that Waddle’s foot was on the TV’s version of the line of scrimmage instead of the actual real-game line of scrimmage.
Although Miami lost to Tennessee in Monday’s game, Kansas City fans called for referees to be fair in their officiating for both situations.
