The Kansas City Chiefs defense made big plays in the Divisional victory over the Houston Texans on Saturday, punching a seventh consecutive trip to the AFC Championship game. The unit led by postseason captain Chris Jones combined for eight sacks of C.J. Stroud, and he discussed the performance during his postgame press conference.
“I think that was huge. I think it was definitely going to bigs,” said Jones. “I think (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid talked about it all week on how important that the bigs – I mean, that the o-line and the d-line play this game physical and set the tone of the game. I think we took that to heart and came out and played physical and was able to affect the game.”
Jones picked up a sack in the first half with an impressive pass rush to take down Stroud, but there was some pre-planning that took place, according to the multiple-time All-Pro.
“No, I just don’t choose to be where I want to be (laughter). Listen, y’all have to stop listening to (Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo) Spags,” said Jones. “Yeah, that play I did choose (laughter). I did, man. I seen the opportunity, watched film on it all week, and figured, ‘Why not?'”
Jones has lined up on several areas of the defensive line throughout the season to take advantage of the best matchups, although he’s often double-teamed.
