Chiefs DT Chris Jones gives a ringing endorsement for DC Steve Spagnuolo: ‘We’re going to continue to win’

The football world is still discussing the Kansas City Chiefs’ latest AFC Championship victory, last Sunday’s over the Buffalo Bills. A hot topic has been defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s fearless play calls, such as blitzing Josh Allen to seal the game.

Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones spoke highly of Spagnuolo during his conversation with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt after the game.

“As long as they continue to let Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) be our DC (Defensive Coordinator) and not hire him as a head coach, we’re going to continue to win,” said Jones. “For me, he’s one of the greatest assistant coaches ever to coach the game. When you look at his résumé, he’s got one of the greatest résumés. He finds a way to close. That’s what Spags does. Whether it’s dropping deep and covering a tight end or whether it’s sending a quarterback pressure at the end of the game, that’s what he’s known for. He can dial up different schematics and different blitzes to affect the opposing quarterback, and he does a really, really good job at it.”

The Chiefs’ defense ranked in the top ten in several categories during the regular season. In addition to their AFC Championship victory, the unit tallied eight sacks in the divisional round win over the Houston Texans. Spagnuolo has interviewed for several head coaching jobs over the past few weeks.
