Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo provides update on LB Nick Bolton’s injury status

The pleasant surprise this season for the Kansas City Chiefs has been the emergent e of their defense. The season’s first four weeks have seen the unit fulfill its hopes of being more aggressive and capitalizing on turnovers.

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has gained a well-earned reputation for being focused on pressuring the quarterback. He has seen several players outside of All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones make impact plays to secure victories. Spagnuolo addressed his unit’s progress and more during Thursday’s press conference.

“Yeah, Nick’s (Bolton) done a little bit of work here. I don’t know if we’re at that point yet. Probably going to be right down to the end of the week. But I know he’s chomping at the bit.” said Spagnuolo, “I don’t know if you guys have talked to him, but he’s a competitor, and I don’t think he likes standing on the sideline and watching the guys out there playing, so if he can go, he’ll go, but we’ll see where we are at the end.

The Chiefs have won their last two games with Bolton out of the lineup due to a nagging ankle injury. The emergence of offseason free agent signing Drue Tranquill has helped steady the unit until Bolton is cleared to return.
