The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Houston Texans to start their postseason with freezing temperatures forecasted for the game. Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub addressed the weather concerns during Wednesday’s press conference.
“We’ve had a lot of weather games, and we do certain things, as far as, if it’s gusty, we hold it and hold the snap,” said Toub. “There’s all different things you can do, but we have a lot of experience kicking in cold weather, so we feel like that’s an advantage for us.”
The Weather forecast at Arrowhead Stadium for Saturday’s playoff game is for a high of 26 degrees and a low of seven degrees, with overcast, clear conditions. The Chiefs are no strangers to playing in ice-cold conditions, as Toub further described his mindset for the kicking team.
“If you’re sitting in the stadium and you see the flags, and I don’t want to give away air secrets,” said Toub. “but if you see the flags blowing one way, it’s going to be opposite on the field, because the wind comes down and hits on the side of the stadium, and it blows back across. So it’s the opposite of what you see with the flags. It’s kind of different.”
Harrison Butker has played many games in poor weather conditions, so that experience will benefit Kansas City.
