It looks like Joshua Williams isn’t the only member of the Kansas City Chiefs secondary changing his jersey number this offseason.
Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie took to Instagram to share an edit hinting that he’ll be changing his jersey number back to the No. 22 he wore in college. The picture is from his interception against the Seattle Seahawks and it’s edited to show him wearing the No. 22 jersey instead of No. 21. It’s also captioned with: “Return of the Mac.”

The No. 22 has a special place in McDuffie’s heart. It was previously the jersey number worn by his brother, Tyler, who tragically passed away eight years ago. He was assigned that jersey number at Washington without even having to ask for it. He said it was fate and that he felt like he was meant to be with the Huskies.
When he joined the Chiefs through the 2022 NFL draft, Juan Thornhill wore the No. 22 jersey. Now that Thornhill is leaving to join the Cleveland Browns, the No. 22 jersey was now open for McDuffie. He’ll have an opportunity to honor his brother in the NFL after having worn the No. 21 jersey during his rookie season in Kansas City.
