Chiefs can affect the fate of an AFC West rival on Sunday: ‘We’re in it for the competition’

During his weekly Monday Zoom press conference, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid discussed the talent in the AFC West and the potential for three teams to make the postseason this year.

“The level of this division is incredible. We’ve got all four teams playing hard, aggressive, and solid football,” said Reid. “I know the (Las Vegas) Raiders are not in. I get that, but I know the other two deserve to be in the playoffs as much as anybody. It’s good to see that. I think that this is all about competition. We’re in it for the competition. Both Denver (Broncos) and the (Los Angeles) Chargers, or, you know, they’re both really good football teams.”

The Chargers clinched their spot in the postseason last Saturday with their victory over the New England Patriots, while the Broncos squandered a chance to do the same in their Week 17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Denver can still cliche and become the third AFC West team in the playoffs with a victory over Kansas City in the regular season finale.

“We’re going to do what we have to do,” said Reid. “But most of all, we want to play well; yeah, that’s what we want to do against a good football team.”

The Raiders are not in playoff contention but are expected to receive a top pick in April’s NFL Draft.
