The Chiefs have shown us the initial jersey numbers for their draft picks. It’s always safe to hold off on buying a jersey until 53-man roster cuts, because players can change to a different number later in the offseason program.
Here’s a look at the jersey numbers for rookie draft picks:
- Mecole Hardman No. 17
Hardman takes the number most recently worn by Chris Conley, who left the Chiefs in free agency this offseason.
- Juan Thornhill No. 22
Thornhill grabs the number most recently worn by Orlando Scandrick. It’s more recognizable as the number worn by former Chiefs corner Marcus Peters.
- Khalen Saunders No. 99
No. 99 was most recently worn by Rakeem Nunez-Roches. It’s definitely considered one of the better numbers for a defensive lineman.
- Rashad Fenton No. 27
No. 27 has traditionally been the mark of a running back in Kansas City. Worn by Larry Johnson and recently former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt.
- Darwin Thompson No. 25
This one is interesting. The Chiefs just retired Jamaal Charles, who wore the No. 25 jersey when he was with the team. Last season it was actually rookie defensive back Armani Watts who wore the number.
- Nick Allegretti No. 73
Allegretti grabs the number formerly worn by both Chiefs offensive linemen Zach Fulton and Jeff Allen. It’s a good a number and should serve him well.
