The Minnesota Vikings have informed star RB Dalvin Cook that he’s being released. They’ll attempt to trade him one more time on Thursday before releasing him on Friday, but it sounds like he’s destined to hit the free agent market.
Potential suitors are already lining up to add this talented player, including one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC West rivals. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos are one of the teams expected to have an interest in signing Cook once he’s officially released. He adds the Miami Dolphins are another team to watch for Cook and that both teams have been “monitoring Cook for weeks.”
The Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos are two of the teams that are expected to have an interest in signing running back Dalvin Cook once he officially is released, per sources. There likely will be others, but those two have been monitoring Cook for weeks.

With Broncos RB Javonte Williams working his way back from an ACL injury, adding a player like Cook could take some pressure off of Williams in his return. Denver also signed former Bengals RB Samaje Perine in free agency as well. As most NFL teams learn through a 17-game season, you can never have too many players at a given position.
This is a move that also makes sense for new Broncos HC Sean Payton. He’s adding a skill set more similar to a player that he’s used to coaching in Saints RB Alvin Kamara. Cook can perform that type of role in an offense that will be predicated on good defense, the running game and making life easy for veteran QB Russell Wilson.
