Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams will undergo season-ending surgery on his left foot, the team announced on Friday. Williams has been out of action since January 25 due to what was initially diagnosed as acute bone edema. Further medical evaluation revealed a stress reaction in his left foot.
The 20-year-old forward was selected by the Chicago Bulls as the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft after a standout collegiate career at Florida State University. In his sophomore season with the Bulls, Williams averaged 10 points and 3.9 rebounds per game across 43 appearances.
Throughout his four-year career, Williams has maintained solid averages of 9.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, showcasing his potential as a key contributor for the Bulls. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team as they navigate the remainder of the season.
Following a recent defeat to the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Bulls currently hold the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 26-30. The team will need to regroup and adjust their strategies in the absence of Williams to secure a playoff berth in a competitive conference.
