Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, a sixth-year backup player, is taking a five-day break from training camp to support his wife, Simone Biles, as she competes for the U.S. gymnastics team at the Paris Olympics. This decision has garnered widespread attention and support, with Owens expressing gratitude towards the Bears organization for allowing him to attend the Olympics.

Simone Biles, a decorated gymnast with multiple Olympic and world championship titles, is favored to win the team competition in Paris. If successful, it would mark the third consecutive Summer Games where a family member of a Bears player has won a medal.

Coach Matt Eberflus has endorsed Owens' absence, emphasizing the significance of the Olympics and the importance of supporting loved ones. Owens' teammates have shown understanding and encouragement, with some even requesting souvenirs from his trip.

Owens and Biles, who got married last year, have been separated due to training commitments and the postponement of the 2020 Olympics. Owens plans to stay connected with the Bears during his absence, ensuring he remains up to date with team activities.

Despite missing the Hall of Fame Game, Owens is eager to watch the Bears play against Houston on August 1. His primary focus, however, remains on supporting Biles and witnessing her compete in person at the Olympics.

Upon his return, Owens looks forward to reuniting with his wife in Chicago, as she plans to join him after completing a post-Olympics gymnastics tour. The couple's enduring support for each other reflects their commitment and love.
