CHIANG MAI: Flooding in this northern province on Tuesday remained largely unchanged - with residential areas, roads and farmland still inundated, Regional Irrigation Office 1 said.
Most of the affected areas were in Muang, Mae Rim, Hot, San Patong, Doi Tao and Chom Thong districts.
In the Nakhon Chiang Mai Municipality, which covers much of the city, relief officials on Tuesday morning continued to distribute food and drinking water to flood-hit people.
Floodwalls were being raised higher and strengthened with sandbags as the water level in the Ping river had risen - from 4.51 metres to 4.52m. Water from Chiang Dao district flowed past the P 1 water monitoring station on the Ping river at the rate of 715.15 cubic metres/second.
Overflows from the Ping river caused the water levels in the Night Bazaar, Chang Khlan, Chiang Mai Land, Prachasamphan road, Wiang Thong, Charoen Prathet, Pa Phrao Nok, Nong Hoy and Pa Daet areas to remain unchanged despite ongoing efforts to drain water out.
In neighbouring Lamphun province, parts of Li and Pa Sang districts were still flooded. More water pumps were being sent to the trouble spots to drain water out.
Heavy rain was reported overnight - 53.3 millimetres in Mae Taeng district of Chiang Mai, 48.8mm in Li district of Lamphun, and 35.2mm in Pang Mapha district of Mae Hong Son.
