RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel led a Congress demonstration in front of the Enforcement Directorate office in Raipur on Thursday while party chief Sonia Gandhi was being questioned by the central agency in New Delhi.
"Let the interrogation go live on TV. Let the country know why Sonia ji is being questioned and what is being asked of her. If the central government is courageous, they should livestream the ED questioning session so that citizens of the country know the truth," Baghel said while addressing the large gathering. Several of his ministers were part of the agitation.
Speaking in Chhattisgarhi dialect, the CM said, "The nation wants to know. I again demand that if the BJP at the Centre has the mettle, then video-record the ED interrogation of Sonia Gandhi and let everyone know how much money laundering has been done. People of this country want to know what's being asked inside the ED office. Let us know what Rahul and Sonia Gandhi are being asked." tnn
ED closed National Herald case in 2015, says Baghel
At the rally marked 'Gherao of ED office', Baghel said: "The BJP has completed three years at the Centre. When the government changes after two years, will they (ED) be able to make eye contact with us and reply to our questions? We are here to make them realize this. The same ED had closed this National Herald case in 2015, stating there was no money laundering."
The CM said the National Herald case was "blown out of proportion" because the newspaper belonged to Congress party, was founded by former PM Nehru and other party leaders, and because of monetary transactions from party. "There's no crime when a father gives money to his son," Baghel argued.
State health minister T S Singhdeo, who is on a tour, also registered his protest against Sonia's questioning by tweeting: "Trying to intimidate Sonia Gandhi ji who has successfully led India and Congress party and is from a family of patriots and martyrs is laughable. What's sad is BJP has thrown an able govt body like ED into disrepute by using it as their personal goons."
Congress workers were out on the streets since morning in large numbers and gathered at Pujari Park in front of the ED office. TNN
