Chest Heart and Stroke charity appeal for Lanarkshire volunteers to help in community

A charity supporting those affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions is looking for volunteers in Lanarkshire to support its Hospital to Home services.

In Lanarkshire over 221,100 people are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) help patients manage them.

A community support services volunteer with the charity supports people in the local community who are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions to develop confidence to manage their condition and support them in achieving personal recovery goals.

Volunteers will support people in one-to-one or group settings and support is provided in person, virtually or via telephone.

The charity’s Hospital to Home services are a nationwide network of local support groups, nurses and one-to-one support teams which support people and their families throughout their recovery.

Ruth Zokas, volunteering development lead at CHSS, said: “Our community support services volunteers are vital in helping us run our services in the local community and directly helping people with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live their lives to the full.

“People are leaving hospital often scared and alone and by giving the gift of your time, you’ll be helping people when they need it most. You’ll be supporting people in your local community to do more than survive and really live.

“This is a really rewarding volunteering opportunity where you’ll meet new people, learn new skills and be making a difference to the lives of people in your local area.

"We’ll provide you with all the necessary training and support you in your volunteering role.”

If you’re interested in becoming a community support services volunteer with CHSS email volunteering@chss.org.uk or call 0131 225 6963.
