Cheslin Kolbe 'clone' scores try of the season contender to stun viewers

Cheslin Kolbe made his big comeback for Toulon at the weekend, but his 'clone' was also catching the headlines in the United Rugby Championship.

Leinster welcomed Sharks to the RDS Arena on Saturday, and fans were treated to a feast of attacking rugby. Thaakir Abrahams was at the forefront of the glittering ability on display.

The 22-year-old speedster's second try of the match was the pick of the bunch, and that's saying something after some of the exemplary scores in the game.

Plucking a ball from the high heavens with relative ease, the wing ducks through a tight gap and gets his legs pumping. To the naked eye, one would assume this was in fact Kolbe making his comeback. From appearance to playing style, the likeness is uncanny.

Abrahams launches a hefty goose-step before sticking a powerful grubber in the direction of the whitewash.

He then beats Garry Ringrose in a sprint before touching the ball down to cap off a marvelous solo effort.

The effort has been dubbed by RugbyJoe as a 'try of the season contender'.

The Sharks man has been called a 'Cheslin Kolbe clone' by some and former Springbok star Breyton Paulse picked up on the likeness between the pair.

"A guy like Cheslin Kolbe, similar size and kind of frame, he makes the tackles and 50-50 high balls as well." said Paulse to a Super Sport panel after the match.

However, Paulse and former Bok head coach Nick Mallett both suggested that Abrahams has a lot of work to do in the defensive department before he matures into a top level player, again speaking to a Super Sport panel.

"The advice here is which coach is going to put his arm around Thaakir and say ‘son, you need to make those tackles'" Paulse said.

"Thaakir Abrahams is so good going forward but it’s not about size, because Cheslin Kolbe can tackle and does tackle, Kurt-lee Arendse tackles brilliantly." added Mallett.

Joining the likes of Frans Malherbe and Gurthrö Steenkamp, Abrahams is another talented rugby player that attended Paarl Boys High in South Africa.
