'Cheshire-by-the-sea's' most expensive beach hut is up for sale for an eye-watering £200,000

A small beach hut in the North Wales resort dubbed 'Cheshire-by-the-sea' is up for sale for an eye-watering £200,000.

If the asking price is reached it make it the most expensive hut ever sold on Abersoch's Porth Mawr beach- and more expensive than an average three-bed semi in many parts of Greater Manchester.

And for that price the hut doesn't even come with electricity or running water, NorthWalesLive reports.

Estate agents Elvins said the place was a 'rare opportunity' to get a slice of prime beachfront real estate. Abersoch is one of the most desirable holiday destinations in Wales. It has even been dubbed 'Cheshire-by-the-sea' due to its popularity with wealthy holidaymakers and second home owners from Cheshire.

On Twitter, one person wondered if it comes with a “parking space for the Lambo”. Another inquired as to whether Waitrose made deliveries. The hut has a private deck which, said the agents, afford “stunning sea views” across to St Tudwals Islands. And despite the absence of running water, drainage or electricity, buyers can be reassured it provides “ample storage”.

The sum being demanded is £25,000 more than the previous highest asking price for one of Abersoch’s brightly painted beach huts. The figure of £175,000 was a guide price, and it is not known what fee was eventually agreed. The official record price stands at £160,000 for a bathing hut sold in 2017.

According to Rightmove, homes in the surrounding county area shot up 20% in 2021 – an inflationary spiral greater even than Abersoch’s fabled beach huts. The rapid rise in the county’s property prices, prompted by the staycation boom and changes to working patterns during the pandemic, has fuelled concerns over local people being priced out of the market.

Last year the Manchester Evening News reported how Abersoch is to lose its only school because a surge in second homes bought by wealthy holidaymakers has left it with just seven pupils.

Still, the exclusivity of Abersoch’s “shacks” – some are actually very luxurious – will always attract well-heeled seaside lovers. “Could I fit my Aga in it?” pondered one tongue-in-cheek buyer on Twitter.
