Cheryl makes rare social media comeback as she celebrates 40th birthday

Popstar Cheryl has celebrated turning 40 with a rare Instagram selfie, as she posed for a tongue-in-cheek 'flower power' style picture.

The star, who was previously part of the girl group Girls Aloud and an X Factor judge alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, went for a relaxed look as she hit her milestone birthday she spent time at an unknown location.

Styling a pale pink shirt tied at the waist alongside flared green trousers and flat sandals to compliment her petite frame, Cheryl topped off her birthday look with a pair of flower sunglasses as she captioned the rare Instagram snap: "So…this is 40."

Fans of the star, including celebrity pals, have wished the star a happy birthday as she reaches 40 years.

TV presenter Laura Whitmore wrote: "Happy birthday!"

Former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison added: "Happy birthday beautiful girl!"

Fans joined in too as one commented: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUEEEEN! Misss you sooooo much!"

Another wrote: "Happy Birthday Geordie Queen."

"40 never looked better!!! Have the best day ever," said another.

Whilst Cheryl is taking time to enjoy her 40th birthday in a country house retreat at Wilderness Reserve in Suffolk, the star is also reportedly being fought over by acting bosses keen to help the star make a comeback.

The Girls Aloud star stunned fans last December when she was cast in West End production 2:22 A Ghost Story for her debut acting role.

She played the lead role of Jenny in the Danny Robins-created thriller play with the venue virtually a sell-out for each show, leading to acting bosses keen to get her back on stage and performing again.

Whilst she may have started her career in music with Girls Aloud, it seems acting could be the future for Cheryl.

A source told The Sun: "Accepting the Ghost Story gig was always a gamble but it has breathed new life into Cheryl’s career.

"She knows her time as a pop star has come to an end and she openly admits she no longer understands the music industry, but being back on stage was a real buzz for her.

"She loved every minute and wants to get another show under her belt.

"There are multiple offers on the table so it’s about picking the one that is right for her."
