Cheryl is the 'driving force behind Girls Aloud reunion' after 'overcoming frosty relations' with her former bandmates.
The girl band, who split in 2013 after more than 10 years together, are set to reunite for a special gig in honour of bandmate Sarah Harding, who passed away in September last year following a battle with breast cancer.
Cheryl has reportedly reached out to Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts as she pushes for them to organise a special event to raise money for cancer charities.
Former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Star Nadine confirmed they would be getting back together for one night only to “raise money in honour of Sarah”.
“She’s very much in the forefront of our minds. We definitely want to do something to help others,” she told OK! magazine .
Nadine said the aim of the event would be to “raise money for a piece of medical equipment that helps diagnose cancer earlier so people can be treated”.
Now, mum-of-one Cheryl has put aside her differences with the girls - including her famously icy relationship with bandmate Nadine - so they can focus on continuing Sarah’s legacy.
“Cheryl was the driving force in getting the remaining members of Girls Aloud back together to honour Sarah,” a source told Closer magazine.
"It wasn’t easy, but Cheryl felt she’d be the best person to make it happen and personally reached out to all of them,” they added.
Kimberly recently confirmed that the band wouldn’t be getting back on stage to perform as they “don’t feel ready without Sarah”.
But Cheryl is reportedly keen to reunite with the girls so they can remember Sarah in their own way, and talks have been “emotional” as they discuss “painful memories” as well as happy times spent together.
Nadine was allegedly the first person to agree to Cheryl’s idea of reuniting for a special event in honour of Sarah, and their old disagreements and grudges are a thing of the past.
The feuding duo have “gained a lot of perspective with everything that’s happened”, and realised it’s “not worth holding grudges”.
Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, and just over one year later, aged just 39, she sadly passed away.
