Irish star Jessie Buckley has signed up for a new movie with Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Fifty Shades actress Dakota Johnson.
The Lost Daughter will be the first film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and will also star Peter Sarsgaard.
The film, based on the 2006 best-selling novel by Elena Ferrante, tells the story of an elegant college professor Leda (Colman) who becomes obsessed by Nina (Johnson), a young woman she meets on holiday, and her young daughter.
She watches them on a beach and becomes consumed with their relationship and that of their extended family.
She becomes overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of early motherhood and begins to unravel.
Gyllenhaal, who wrote the script, said in a statement: “When I finished reading Elena Ferrante’s The Lost Daughter, I felt that something secret and true had been said out loud. And I was both disturbed and comforted by that.

“I immediately thought how much more intense the experience would be in a movie theatre, with other people around.
“And I set to work on this adaptation. I find that the script has attracted other people interested in exploring these secret truths about motherhood, sexuality, femininity, desire.
“And I’m thrilled to continue my collaboration with such brave and exciting actors and filmmakers.”
Chernobyl star Buckley, who was recently nominated for a BAFTA for her lead role in Wild Rose and who performed at the ceremony, is on a career roll.
The Kerry actress was name-checked by Oscar winning Renee Zellweger at the BAFTAS who told the celebrity crowd from the stage that she admired everything the 30-year-old actress had done.
Buckley starred with Zellweger in Judy for which the American star won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA.
It’s not clear what role Buckley will play in The Lost Daughter.
