CHENNAI: The swimming pool at Marina will be thrown open to the public on April 1 after a two-year pandemic-driven shutdown.
Corporation deputy commissioner D Sneha said, “The facility (the pool) will open on April 1. The corporation swimming pool at Tiruvottriyur in north Chennai will open on April 5.” The swimming pool had undergone some basic maintenance and beautification work during the period it was shut. Manager of the facility Ravi said all broken tiles were fixed and paintings done in some of the places. “We had changed the lights too. It is functional now,” he said.
The 100-metre long Marina pool costs ₹50 per hour and is open from 5:30am to 7:30pm. Usually, the beach had a daily footfall of 2,000 people before the pandemic. This is set to increase now with the summer season setting in. "In 2019 Simmer, we had water shortage issues. This time, we are hopeful for a very good turnout," he said.
