Cheltenham restaurants and pubs: Where to eat and drink during the Festival

Cheltenham nightclub Under The Prom have released an extensive list of food and drink recommendations for punters heading to the famed town for this month's Festival.

The meeting is set to be rocking once again this year and is sure to attract newcomers eager for a taste of the action.

For anyone travelling to the Festival with the horse racing on their mind, food and drink destinations might be a bit of a minefield. Luckily, Under The Prom have provided an extensive list of the town's top haunts for eating and drinking.

For their part, Under The Prom are located on the promenade in central Cheltenham and boast three different bars each offering a selection of cocktails, spirits, champagne and bottled beer and ciders.

But they have revealed there is a wealth of options available to those visiting the town.

Breakfast/Brunch

When it comes to the early risers, there are some solid options for grub.

Philip Jordan, Co-Founder of Under the Prom said: "If you’ve got time for a pre-races breakfast, look no further than The Find , Cheltenham’s ultimate brunch spot.

"Whether it’s a stack of buttermilk pancakes or a full English you’re after, their delicious breakfast menu (available until 12:00pm) is perfect for the gram. You can even enjoy your breakfast with a glass of prosecco or a local Gloucester Brewery Craft Lager to help start your day off right.

The Find on Regent Street will be accepting walk-ins however, they tend to get particularly busy during race week, so be sure to pre-book your table through their website www.thefind.co.uk ."

The breakfast options don't stop there.

He continued: " L'Artisan in Cheltenham have created The HorseChoux based on Cheltenham’s biggest tourist attraction, its racecourse.

"The pastry is shaped like a horseshoe with a choux bun base, cream puff filling, finished with a delicate horseshoe-shaped chocolate topping that has the significant seven lucky pins on the horseshoe.

"The HorseChoux patisserie has been developed by French-born restaurateurs, Yves and Elisabeth Ogrodzki, who fell in love with Cheltenham when relocating to the town a decade ago. They were passionate about Cheltenham having a signature artisan food product that showcased the best of the town in every single bite. With this in mind, the HorseChoux was born.

"Head to 30 Clarence St and pick up any of their eight flavoured HorseChoux’s for £4.95."

Evening Meal

When a more substantial meal is required, look no further than Domaine 16.

Philip said: "The very first day of the Cheltenham Festival, Domaine 16 , will be offering their UNLIMITED Raclette. For £21.95 per person, you can enjoy unlimited melted cheese on top of a bed of charcuterie and potatoes.

This haven of cheese and wine, which can be found on Cheltenham’s Regent Street, is open throughout race week and you can book your table here ."

Cocktails/Nightlife

The advice doesn't end there, nor does the day end with an evening meal - and there are some nice options for those fancying something later in the night.

Philip said: "Cheltenham’s most popular tapas bar, Bar Padron, has donned it’s green waistcoat and for one week only, will become Paddy’s Magical Leprechaun Bar - Cheltenham’s No.1 Irish Bar.

"Expect to see the bar draped in shamrocks, dabbing leprechauns as far as the eye can see and enough Guinness to sink a ship.

"Whether it’s an Irish Maid, Irish Flag, Nutty Irishman or a round of Baby Guinness’ for your fellow racegoers, Paddy’s Bar on Regent Street is THE spot to head to post-raceday."

And after a couple of cocktails, revellers can mozy on down the street to the popular COCO nightclub:

"COCO, is a lively basement club that is situated in the heart of Cheltenham’s Regent Street, and has been for over seven years. Expect the best DJ’s in the county to be performing throughout race week all the way until 4am."

It is sure to be a lively week on and off the racecourse!
