Cheltenham Festival 2025 - LIVE!
The Gold Cup took centre stage at Prestbury Park later this afternoon and Galopin Des Champs could not secure a third straight win in the race. He was a firm favourite to do so for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend, but Inothewayurthinkin produced a brilliant run to stay with Galopin Des Champs and then power up the hill in dominant fashion.
There had already been a huge shock on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival, summing up the week for punters. Favourites have been beaten on a regular basis over the past four days and it continued in the Triumph Hurdle, as Poniros won at 100-1 on hurdling debut in a huge shock. That gave Willie Mullins his first winner of the day and three more have followed, with the trainer claiming the opening four races on Friday to move into double figures for the week.
The Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle brought down the curtain on the Festival, as Gordon Elliott finally brought up his first winner of the week at the 28th time of asking, as Wodhooh proved too strong and completed an Irish sweep on Friday. Catch up on all the action with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!

17:56 , Matt VerriWhat a week it’s been!
Plenty of surprises, no shortage of storylines and some very, very poignant winners.
Another strong Festival for the Irish, particularly for Willie Mullins as he ended up on 10 winners.

Three lengths clear at the last, lands it and nobody is going to catch her!
The Irish finish the Festival in style - a first winner of the week for Gordon Elliott at long last.

Update on Galopin Des Champs
17:17 , Matt VerriSpeaking of Willie Mullins...
Here’s the trainer discussing Galopin Des Champs’ run in the Gold Cup.
“He just wasn’t jumping,” is the verdict.

The Last Dance!
17:16 , Matt VerriWe’ve had 27 races this week - one to go!
Willie Mullins has the 5-2 favourite in Kopeck De Mee, and a victory here would see him break his own existing record and finish the Festival with 11 winners.
Johnny Ward's tip for Martin Pipe
17:07 , Matt VerriThe Festival concludes with the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle (5.20) and one of the talking horses of the week, the McManus-owned Kopeck De Mee.
He reportedly wowed watchers in a Curragh stretch lately.
One very relieved jockey!
16:58 , Matt VerriLooked at one stage as though Wonderwall would run out a comfortable winner.
Anything but in the end...

Wonderwall wins the St. James's Place Festival Hunters Chase!
16:49 , Matt VerriWonderwall jumps the last well and is a couple of lengths up.
Its On The Line looks to be beaten, but he comes again and is charging on the inside...
But it’s Wonderwall who holds on!
That was a great race. Haven’t had too many tight finishes this week, but that suddenly turned into one.

Two races to go...
16:40 , Matt VerriWe’ll be bringing you plenty more reaction from the Gold Cup.
But we’ve also got two more races!
The first of those is about to start - it’s the St. James's Place Festival Hunters Chase!
Reaction from winning trainer Gavin Cromwell
16:38 , Matt Verri"I’m absolutely speechless.
“We’ve had a lot of faith in this horse and a lot of credit has to go to Keith Donoghue. He’s rode him all the way along and done all the schooling.
“ The pace of the race on the better ground was a worry, and he was only just hanging on in there the whole time.
“He’s a very good horse. I suppose going down to the second-last I felt we still had a chance. I’m just thrilled."
Corbetts Cross suffers fatal injury
16:32 , Matt VerriSome incredibly sad news from the Gold Cup.
Corbetts Cross had a heavy fall at the last and it’s been confirmed that he suffered a fatal injury.
A statement from Cheltenham said: "In our fifth race of the day, Corbett’s Cross was immediately attended to by our veterinary professionals, but sadly sustained a fatal injury.
“Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections."
Not to be...
16:18 , Matt VerriNo hat-trick for Galopin Des Champs.
Still a warm reception for him after the race.
Paul Townend has said he never really got going - a big, big surprise.

16:09 , Matt VerriINCREDIBLE!
Galopin Des Champs looked to be absolutely cruising at the turn, but Inothewayurthinkin went with him.
Jumped the last brilliantly, and just powered away up the hill to win with something to spare.
Galopin Des Champs does not have his hat-trick.
Cheltenham Gold Cup
16:08 , Matt VerriBanbridge is struggling, his race looks to be run.
Galopin Des Champs is looking so good, cruising up into the lead on the turn for home and it all looks so easy.

They're off!
16:02 , Matt VerriHuuuge roar as they get away in the Gold Cup!
Four horses have done the Gold Cup hat-trick before - Galopin Des Champs looking to expand membership in that particularly club to five.
Banbridge is one of the main threats, but it remains to be seen whether he can stay the distance.
There has been a fair bit of support for Monty’s Star, ridden by Rachael Blackmore.
Paul Townend brings the trophy out. He’ll hope to be lifting that again very, very shortly.
Applause for Galopin Des Champs wherever he goes, but he doesn’t look to have a care in the world.
Willie Mullins has 10 records as it stands, matching his own record.
One more to break it - this would be a decent way to do it!
Latest odds: Cheltenham Gold Cup
15:49 , Matt VerriIt’s the big one!
Can Galopin Des Champs do the three-peat?
He’s looking incredibly relaxed in the parade ring.
Galopin Des Champs - 1/2
Inothewayurthinkin - 13/2

Johnny Ward's Gold Cup tip
15:42 , Matt VerriOne of the game's great staying chasers, Galopin Des Champs, is on the cusp of a third Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup (4.00) on the trot – and it may seem folly to take him on.
The layers will feel they are hoping against hope. Then again, in Grade One races in the opening two days alone, we've had race-ending blunders from Ballyburn, Majborough, Constitution Hill, State Man and Jonbon. The bookies are emboldened.
Galopin Des Champs faces a run-of-the-mill Gold Cup field and there is no evidence he has regressed. However, Inothewayurthinkin is put forward as an each-way play, on the basis that he has not been trained to peak yet this season.
That he was so good as a novice last year and was supplemented both suggest he has the ability and promise to get involved.
The King George winner, Banbridge, crucially has his ground. Still, he needs to prove he stays this yardage.

Perfect Mullins start
15:35 , Matt VerriThat’s 4/4 for Willie Mullins today!

The Big Westerner threatens to pull alongside at the last, it’s not a great jump from Jasmin De Vaux...
But too strong on the run up the hill! Townend and Mullins do it again.
Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle
15:25 , Matt VerriIt’s very bunched as they make the turn.
Jasmin De Vaux has been towards the back for pretty much the whole race.

Five-minute warning...
15:16 , Matt VerriRunners are on their way up to post.
The way this week has gone, can expect Jig’s Forge at 80-1 to win this.
Johnny Ward's tip
15:05 , Matt VerriHenry de Bromhead is taken to score in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (3.20) with The Big Westerner.
A mare has never taken this grueller – few have tried – and this strapping six-year-old has been kept fresh with a view to this.
It is harsh on the geldings, given her size, that they have to give her 7lb.
Latest odds: 15:20 - Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle
14:57 , Matt VerriThis looks a really competitive race.
Henry de Bromhead has the favourite in The Big Westerner, but Willie Mullins and Paul Townend are a threat, as ever, with Jasmin De Vaux.

Shecouldbeanything right there too.
Mares' Chase

14:42 , Matt VerriAway in the Mares Chase!
Allegorie De Vassy has drifted out to 4-1, money is very much on Dinoblue.
Should be a fair bit of pace in this race.
Johnny Ward tip
14:31 , Matt VerriThe Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase (2.40) can see Gavin Cromwell strike with Brides Hill.
This race should not belong at a Cheltenham Festival but this mare has her ground and is a far bigger price than hot favourite Dinoblue, who is costly to follow.
Latest odds: 14:40 - Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase
14:24 , Matt VerriDinoblue the one to beat, but Paul Townend rides Allegorie De Vassy and the money has been coming in there.
Couple of decent chances for Gavin Cromwell, too.

Then it’s the small matter of Galopin Des Champs going for Gold Cup glory again.
Could be a very, very special day for Mullins.

Runners are up at the start.
Kargese backed at around 3-1, Lark In The Mornin the second favourite.
Johnny Ward's tip
13:48 , Matt VerriThe William Hill County (2.00) was long the Festival finale, a get-out heat to beat them all. The 2025 edition, notably, has not attracted anything close to a full field; still, we have perhaps the most competitive handicap of the four days.
An Irish win appears certain – Kargese, Absurde, Lark In The Mornin and even Ethical Diamond can be argued as strong fancies – but McLaurey is preferred. He cruised through the race at Leopardstown for the talented young trainer Emmet Mullins and appears primed for JP McManus.
Latest odds: 14:00 - County Handicap Hurdle
13:41 , Matt VerriOn we go!
Plenty with chances in this, but it’s Willie Mullins who is once again backed for another winner.
He’s got Kargese, Absurde and Daddy Long Legs among his runners in this.

13:32 , Matt VerriWillie Mullins had 11 runners in the race, so there was every chance he was going to have the winner.
But nobody expected it to be Poniros, not even the trainer.

Poniros wins the Triumph Hurdle!
13:26 , Matt VerriEast India Dock moves into the lead, there’s five of them right there on the approach to the last.
Hello Neighbour in third, but it’s East India Dock who takes the lead at the last. The top three in the betting going head-to-head.
Lulamba charging on the inside, but Poniros has come flying from nowhere...
He’s catching them... AND WINS IT!
That’s a massive shock on his hurdling debut.
Triumph Hurdle
13:23 , Matt VerriOpec rapidly falling back, despite being pushed along. From the front to the back in a matter of seconds.
Lady Vega Allen has taken on the lead, East India Dock and Lulamba biding their time in second and third.

Mullins well-stocked
13:16 , Matt VerriJust the 11 runners for Willie Mullins in this race. Yes, ELEVEN.
Nicky Henderson’s hope is Lulamba. He’s been speaking ahead of the race and doesn’t sound hugely optimistic.
Suggests Lulamba will be “lovely” in the years ahead, expecting best form to come here next year or even the year after.
Johnny Ward's tip
13:10The opening JCB Triumph Hurdle (1.20) is a captivating renewal. East India Dock has excelled himself since going hurdling while the Nicky Henderson-handled Lulamba carries a lofty reputation.
Preference, however, is for Hello Neighbour. Gavin Cromwell's horses are running nicely this week, he has yet to be beaten and crucially appeals as an improver in a true-run Triumph.
Latest odds: 13:20 - Triumph Hurdle
12:55 , Matt VerriNot far away from our first race of the day.
East India Dock is the favourite for James Owen, with the chief threat coming from Nicky Henderson’s Lulamba.
East India Dock - 7/4
Lulamba - 2/1
Hello Neighbour - 6/1
Blue Lemons - 12/1
Lady Vega Allen - - 12/1

Prestbury Cup
12:38 , Matt VerriIreland lead 13-8 in the Prestbury Cup heading into the final day.
It’s been a better showing overall from the British trainers, but it would take a minor miracle for them to turn that deficit around today. In fact, make that a major miracle.
It’s been a decade since the Irish last failed to win the Prestbury Cup.
Johnny Ward's tip: Cheltenham Gold Cup
12:22 , Matt VerriOne of the game's great staying chasers, Galopin Des Champs, is on the cusp of a third Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup (4.00) on the trot – and it may seem folly to take him on.
The layers will feel they are hoping against hope. Then again, in Grade One races in the opening two days alone, we've had race-ending blunders from Ballyburn, Majborough, Constitution Hill, State Man and Jonbon. The bookies are emboldened.

Galopin Des Champs made his move on the turn from home last year, took the lead at the second-last, and from there it was game over.
Mullins: Galopin Des Champs could be my best ever horse
11:47 , Matt VerriWillie Mullins has spoken about the “heart” that makes Galopin Des Champs such a force.
He has the chance to win a third straight Gold Cup and Mullins has suggested that if the horse does so, he will go down down as the best he’s trained.
"I think he's got just lots of heart," Mullins told BBC Sport.
"He's obviously got athletic ability, he's better than average. But when push comes to shove in those last two furlongs, when you've got to dig deep, this guy seems to have reserves of energy.
"And it's also mental. It's his heart. He just gets down, you know, when the going gets tough, the tough get going and that's what he is. He's tough.”
Asked if Galopin Des Champs is the best horse he’s ever had, Mullins replied: "I've had some wonderful horses here.
“If he does the treble, we'll probably have to give him that accolade, but until then we'll wait.”

Blackmore shines on Thursday
11:10 , Matt VerriBob Olinger beat favourite Teahupoo to win the Stayers’ Hurdle, as Rachael Blackmore secured a second victory on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival.
Blackmore provided Henry de Bromhead with a 16-1 win in the opening race of the day, as Air Of Entitlement won the Mares Novice Hurdle, and she backed it up with an even more significant winner three hours later.
Teahupoo had been travelling well and took the lead on the turn to home, but Bob Olinger moved alongside and they took the last together, before he powered away up the hill for his third Festival victory.
It completed the set of wins in Cheltenham feature races for Blackmore, who already has victories in the Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Ryanair Chase to her name.
"I'm very lucky to be on this horse,” Blackmore said.
“He is brilliant. He has so much speed and could use it. They went a good gallop but he could still pick up when it was needed.
"He is unbeaten around here. I know one day was fortuitous but he has luck on his side and is a very very good horse."

Johnny Ward's best bets for Day 4
10:57 , Matt Verri1:20: Hello Neighbour 5-1
2:00: McLaurey 5-1
2:40: Brides Hill 5-1
3:20: The Big Westerner 9-2
4:00: Inothewayurthinkin 6-1
4:40: Angels Dawn 10-3
5:20: Kopeck De Mee 9-4
(Odds subject to change)
Big race preview: Cheltenham Gold Cup
10:48 , Matt VerriSuch has been the brilliance of Galopin Des Champs again this season that several likely challengers have sidestepped this contest, either re-routing to yesterday’s Ryanair Chase or focusing on other targets further down the line, such as at Aintree.
As a result, this has the look of the weakest of the three renewals he has contested and with favourites having won four of the last five, the omens are good. Should Galopin Des Champs add to that number, he will almost certainly become the shortest-priced winner since Arkle triumphed at 1-10 in 1966.
If there is a small chink in the armour it may be that the champion’s very best runs have come at his beloved Leopardstown, but his Cheltenham form is still excellent and he would be unbeaten in four starts at the track if not for an infamous final fence fall in 2022.
Amid the dearth of rivals, thank heavens for the emergence of Banbridge, a multiple Grade 1 winner over shorter trips before stepping up to three miles to land the King George at Christmas. Representing Joseph O’Brien, the better the ground the better the nine-year-old’s chance.
Seeing the state of the field, Gavin Cromwell and JP McManus have opted to supplement Grand National favourite Inothewayurthinkin into the race as a late entry at a cost of £25,000.
Rachael Blackmore and Henry De Bromhead, meanwhile, hope Monty’s Star will relish this stamina test.
