Cheltenham Festival 2023: Paddy Power launch "British Tears" lager as Irish set to clean up at Prestbury Park again

Paddy Power has launched a limited-edition lager ahead of the Cheltenham Festival next week.

The Irish bookmaker promises to give punters attending their fanzones an exclusive taste of “British Tears” if an Irish horse wins on St Patrick's Day, with the Gold Cup taking place that afternoon.

The specially commissioned home brew was created in partnership with a craft brewery in Dublin, Ireland, to celebrate their first ever Cheltenham Fanzone at Greenwood Sports Pub and Kitchen near Victoria in London City.

On March 17, they will open their doors to the ultimate escape for punters to roar on the action during the fourth and final day of the festival.

The event is expected to play host to the countless number of horse racing fans who won’t make it to the Cotswolds this year after organisers were moved to reduce capacity to 68,500 per day.

But the betting firm has promised a St Patrick’s Day drink for everyone present at their London event should the Irish runners perform as expected next week.

Paddy Power currently make it an odds on shot (1/2) that the Irish will clean up by winning 19 or more races during the four day marathon.

And if just one of them win on the Friday of the festival, Paddy will be pouring thousands of complimentary glasses of ‘British Tears’ for all the guests in attendance at their Cheltenham Fanzone.

The Paddy Power Fanzone will feature live entertainment from Irish hip hop improv artist, Abandoman.

Rachael Kane, spokesperson from Paddy Power said: "The Irish horse racing contingent’s performance at the Cheltenham Festival in recent years has been so dominant that it could hardly be scripted better for those looking for a free pint. To celebrate their inevitable success we've created a limited-edition lager to treat punters in our London fanzone to a taste of ‘British Tears’. Hopefully it won’t prove as difficult to swallow as the taste of defeat.”
