Chelsea have been warned over worrying circumstances regarding one of their main transfer targets at the World Cup. The Blues promise to be one of the busiest teams in January in order to bolster the options for Graham Potter, and Qatar 2022 offers the perfect opportunity to watch players on the biggest stage.
International tournaments are the best shop window, and in the middle of the season the impact of the World Cup could be drastic for the upcoming transfer windows. Although Todd Boehly and his newly assembled recruitment team are already busy at work on deals, interest remains in players from previous windows too.
Despite spending £250m over the summer there was still plenty of business that didn't get completed, and some of those may be revisited sooner rather than later. One of these players is Belgium's Leandro Trossard. The Brighton man is entering a key stage of his contract and interest in him is rife.

The 27-year-old has impressed in 2022, scoring seven times in 14 matches this season along with three assists. He was also very lively as Potter returned to his former club in October, only to lose 4-1. Trossard had been on the radar for Chelsea before Potter's appointment, but interest has only picked up since the 47-year-old joined.
Despite his club form, Trossard isn't a popular pick for Roberto Martinez and Belgium. He hasn't started a game at the World Cup and the Red Devils are nowhere near their best, facing a difficult challenge to get out of the group in the final game against Croatia on Thursday.
Trossard was used as a second half substitute in both games so far but only got 16 minutes on the pitch against Morocco, even though Martinez was chasing a goal. Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf sees this as a major worry. “Trossard, I hear that Chelsea wants Trossard,” he told ESPN.
“And Trossard is on the bench? In that Belgium team? That’s impossible. There is something wrong. Maybe Martinez is the only one who can tell us why he doesn’t have the guts to change. Maybe he has pressure from somebody else.”
For Chelsea, their risk comes from the form that Trossard may be in coming out from the World Cup. With Newcastle also monitoring his situation on the soath coast there is scope for a bidding battle between the two sides.
