Chelsea vs Real Madrid prediction and odds: Thomas Tuchel faces tough task against Carlo Ancelotti's side

Chelsea will be looking to make the most of their season and putting in a solid defence of their European title will be just one way to do it. They welcome a Real Madrid side who sit comfortably at the top of La Liga 12 points ahead of Barcelona.

The Blues are the favourites at 21/20 with Betfred with Real Madrid at 3/1 and a draw at 12/5 - making it the closest tie in the quarter-finals according to the bookies. Thomas Tuchel's side are also tipped to go through to the semi-finals at 4/5 while Madrid are evens.

Tuchel will not be pleased to be going into this match after what he saw at the weekend when they welcome a Brentford side who were mediocre (form wise) when they arrived at Stamford Bridge. A shocking 4-1 defeat to the Premier League newboys has raised some concerns about whether Chelsea could hold on to third-place in the league as they look more and more likely to be pulled into the top four race despite such a strong start to season.

They have had some disappointing moments including losing in the League Cup final but still have hope for some domestic silverware with an FA Cup semi-final tie with Crystal Palace. They do, however, have a long shot in the Champions League but face a Real Madrid side who are on serious form under Carlo Ancelotti.

Team stats

Both teams in matches involving Chelsea have scored in 23 from 50 matches this season in all competitions including two from eight in the Champions League while for Real Madrid it is 22 from 43 with three from eight coming in Europe too. Both teams to score is 10/11.

The Blues have finished 23 matches with three or more goals in all competitions with four coming from Champions League matches while Real Madrid have finished 27 matches this way with five coming from European matches this season. Under 2.5 goals is 11/10.

Player to watch

Karim Benzema was incredible against PSG in the second leg after his hat-trick was the difference to secure a place in the quarter-finals. His performance alone has won plenty of plaudits in a career at Madrid which has been overlooked because of the likes of Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and of course Cristiano Ronaldo at the helm. He has already found the net 34 times this season in all competitions including eight in Europe - this could be his season.

H2H

This will be only the sixth meeting between the two sides with Chelsea undefeated with three wins and two draws including last season's semi-final clash which Tuchel's side won 3-1 on aggregate. It will be the 37th match against Spanish opposition in Europe's top club competition too with the Blues picking up 14 wins, 15 draws and seven defeats.
