Chelsea produced a stunning first-half performance to overturn Manchester City’s first-leg lead at Stamford Bridge and reach the Women’s Champions League semi-finals for the third season in a row.
Trailing 2-0 from last week’s first leg in Manchester, Chelsea flew out of the blocks in a rampant display under Sonia Bompastor, scoring three times before the break through Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn and Mayra Ramirez.
It could, and should, have been more but Khiara Keating’s saves kept City in the tie and Vivianne Miedema, who scored both goals in City’s win last week, went close to grabbing an equaliser in the second half with a shot that whistled past the post.
But it’s Chelsea who advanced to join Arsenal in the next month’s semi-finals. The Blues will once again play reigning champions Barcelona, who have knocked Chelsea out in the semi-finals in the last two seasons.

'A true Chelsea performance' - Millie Bright
22:20 , Flo CliffordA deservedly cheerful goalscorer Nathalie Bjorn and captain Millie Bright chat to Sky Sports after the game.
“We were never in doubt,” Bright says of the comeback. “We had full confidence within ourselves. Even from the first leg we had opportunities to go and win that game, so we were really confident in ourselves and we could have had way more than three goals.
“Unbelievable mentality and desire to come back. A true Chelsea performance.”
Semi-final line-ups
22:15 , Flo CliffordTwo English sides advance to the semi-finals after Arsenal completed a comeback victory of their own last night at the Emirates.
The first legs will be played on 19 and 20 April, with the second legs on 26 and 27 April.
Here’s how they line up:
- Barcelona v Chelsea
- Arsenal v Lyon
Chelsea advance to the semi-finals
21:58 , Flo CliffordJubilant scenes at Stamford Bridge as the Blues dance to, what else, Freed from Desire.
A first-half masterclass with goals from Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn and Mayra Ramirez made the difference.
FULL-TIME: Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:54 , Flo CliffordBronze takes her time with a throw-in, and that’s it! All over at Stamford Bridge!
Chelsea are into the semi-finals, where they’ll meet Barcelona for the third time in a row. What a comeback from 2-0 down at the start of this leg - it had been 21 years since a team had come back from that scoreline in the Women’s Champions League, and now we’ve had it happen twice in two days.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:52 , Flo Clifford90+3 mins: Late challenge by Bronze on Fowler. Thirty seconds remaining, Keating takes a free kick and City’s entire squad head up the pitch...
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:51 , Flo Clifford90+1 mins: FOUR minutes added on. Park is looking lively for City.
Coombs slides in on Bronze and concedes a free-kick.
A change for Chelsea as they look to see this one out: Walsh comes off for Jean-Francois. Nice bit of time wasted there as Kaptein heads off first, thinking it’s her being replaced.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:49 , Flo Clifford90 mins: Coombs makes a brilliant run down the pitch after intercepting a sloppy pass by Bright, but Chelsea manage to deal with it before Fowler can get there. A nervy moment there for the hosts.
Park gets away from Baltimore but Bjorn and Bright combine to clear - but City are still coming! Is there a final twist here?
Kerolin tries to thread the ball through Bronze’s legs but Hampton comes out to quash it.
Chance! Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:46 , Flo Clifford87 mins: A tireless Rytting Kaneryd sprints through again, gets the better of Ouahabi to cut back inside - but her attempt curls over the bar.
Chelsea are still pushing and Ouahabi concedes a free-kick with a pull on Kaptein. The Spaniard is not happy about that.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:43 , Flo Clifford85 mins: Less than ten minutes left at Stamford Bridge. As it stands Chelsea are on course for another semi-final meeting with Barcelona - they lost the previous two.
A frustrated-looking Miedema is shouting and gesticulating to her team-mates. Time is running out for City to find an equaliser.
Layzell comes on for Hasegawa, who has done impressively well to play nearly a full 90 considering she was on crutches only a few days ago.
CHANCE! Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:39 , Flo Clifford80 mins: Baltimore plays it through to Kaptein but there’s too much on it and it rolls behind.
Fowler and Miedema are lively down the other end for City but there’s not much end product for the visitors.
Cuthbert hits the woodwork! She drives forward and plays a left-footed shot but it bounces off the bar.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:34 , Flo Clifford76 mins: Rytting Kaneryd has really been putting in the miles tonight and she sprints down the right again - but Beever-Jones can’t get on it before Keating and City clear the danger.
Hasegawa does well to nick possession but Chelsea come again! Rytting Kaneryd has a go but it bounces off Prior’s feet on its way to Keating, and the 20-year-old keeper saves with her feet too. Dicey moments for City.
CHANCE! Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:31 , Flo Clifford72 mins: Goalscorer Ramirez comes off - to huge applause - for Aggie Beever-Jones. Her strike completed the comeback and we may not be done yet.
Miedema goes for goal on the edge of the box and it inches just a fraction wide! What a chance.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:29 , Flo Clifford70 mins: Fowler wins a free-kick thanks to a nick by Bjorn. Prior nods it goalwards but despite having bodies in the box there’s no-one who can really do anything about it.
Ouahabi has a speculative long-range punt at goal and it’s over the bar. City must be missing the likes of top scorer Bunny Shaw right now.
James tees up Rytting Kaneryd on the right but her cross is straight to Keating.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:24 , Flo Clifford65 mins: Casparij tees up Kerolin but a lovely curling cross is caught by Hampton, who’s in no hurry to get the ball back in play.
We stay in Chelsea’s half for a bit as City press forward before James wrestles the ball away and counters. Fowler gets it back and tries to thread through but again Hampton is there to collect.
A bit more encouraging from City but still not much to write home about in the final third.
Roord comes off for Jess Park.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:21 , Flo Clifford62 mins: Kerolin is back on in good news for the visitors.
James swings a corner in for Kaptein, but Keating gets to it first. Now Rytting Kaneryd drives forward and goes for goal but the City keeper leaps up to palm it away! Hasegawa will feel lucky Keating got there in time as she was at fault for City losing possession.
Keating has a busy couple of minutes as she does well to keep out an attempt by Cuthbert!
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:17 , Flo Clifford58 mins: It looks like Baltimore actually wins the ball and Kerolin nicks her ankle on the follow-through.
Free-kick for City in a dangerous area, right on the edge of the box, but if Kerolin is injured - she’s gone off the field to receive treatment - they have just three outfield players left to bring on.
Fowler clatters it straight into the wall and the resulting rebound is cleared, while City’s ten players press again.
Yellow! Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:14 , Flo Clifford55 mins: Kerolin gets hacked down by Baltimore on the edge of the box and City win a free-kick and a yellow for the defender. Shouts and boos from Stamford Bridge at that decision and Kerolin is still down clutching her ankle. The medics are on.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:12 , Flo Clifford53 mins: There was a check for a penalty there apparently, for handball by City, but it’s over quickly and no luck.
Baltimore hoofs an attempt straight to the arms of Keating. Chelsea are looking pretty relaxed at the moment - it’s been a less frantic start to this half than we saw in the first.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:08 , Flo Clifford49 mins: Coombs immediately looks to get straight in on the action. She brings a bit more experience into this line-up and will allow Miedema - who has, literally, taken her gloves off, so she means business - to move further up the pitch.
Aleixandri gets the first yellow card of the evening for a shove on Ramirez.
Bronze wins a corner off Fowler after a dangerous-looking Chelsea press is snuffed out. Baltimore’s delivery isn’t fully dealt with immediately but City are alive.
SECOND HALF: Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
21:04 , Flo Clifford45 mins: We’re back underway at Stamford Bridge. Coombs has come on for Murphy for the visitors.
HALF-TIME: Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
20:55 , Flo CliffordFrom the opening minute of that first half it was pretty much all Chelsea, with five attempts on goal in the opening ten before Baltimore’s brilliant 13th-minute strike.
Chelsea’s back four have shone so far, with Bjorn knocking in a looping header from a Baltimore corner to secure the equaliser, and Ramirez completing a stunning comeback just before half-time.
Chelsea could have had more, too, with Miedema making a goal-line clearance and Bjorn and Bronze both hitting the post.
Renee Slegers gave Arsenal the team-talk of the century last night as they roared back after half-time to score three and advance to the semis. Can Nick Cushing do the same now?
HALF-TIME: Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
20:49 , Flo Clifford45+2 mins: City are put out of their misery as the whistle goes. From 2-0 up, Chelsea are 3-2 up on aggregate, and look likely to make that an even bigger margin after the break.
Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
20:48 , Flo Clifford45 mins: Now City have a chance! Roord cuts in for Fowler, who spins around but ignores Miedema in space and shoots to a diving Hampton.
Two minutes added on for City to either find something, or get even further behind.
Ramirez is one-on-one with Keating but the keeper denies her!
GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Man City (agg 3-2)
20:45 , Flo Clifford42 mins: Too, too easy for Chelsea, and from 2-0 down they’re now 3-2 up and with one foot on the plane to Barcelona.
James gets onto a sloppy square pass, cuts it back for Ramirez, and she bundles it past the defence into the back of the net.
Chelsea 2-0 Man City (agg 2-2)
20:43 , Flo Clifford42 mins: Rytting Kaneryd has been lively so far and it’s her again driving down the right, trying to find Cuthbert in the box, but it’s cleared.
How do City respond? They’re looking a bit frazzled at the moment.
Bright attempts to slot through to Ramirez, Hasegawa clears it to Keating, but the City keeper makes a mess of a clearance and nearly gets caught out.
Lovely floated ball in by James but it’s over the bar!
GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Man City (agg 2-2)
20:39 , Flo Clifford37 mins: All square at Stamford Bridge!
It’s Bjorn who gets there from another Baltimore set-piece and her header loops over a leaping Miedema. Keating’s nowhere near it.
Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:38 , Flo Clifford37 mins: City have a chance to breathe as Keating receives a time-out after going down. The stands, predictably, are not very happy about it.
11 shots at goal by Chelsea so far, three on target. Just relentless. Five and three respectively for City.
Now Ramirez sprints through by Prior launches herself at it to clear!
Chance after chance! Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:35 , Flo Clifford33 mins: Huge wasted opportunity for City as Baltimore plays an incredibly loose back-pass, intercepted by Fowler. Kerolin’s there in acres of space on the right but Fowler opts to go it alone - and it’s booted way into the stands. Really poor.
She wins a corner and Kerolin gets a foot to it, but Chelsea nick it, Rytting Kaneryd makes a fabulous run in no time at all - but Hasegawa finally gets in the way at the goal-line and knocks it out.
All in City’s box at the moment as Keating does well to palm away a looping long ball, then City takes an absolute age to clear a James corner as it pinballs around the box - Miedema hoofs it away from the line and it eventually makes its way out.
CHANCE! Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:31 , Flo Clifford30 mins: City play a corner but there’s too much heft on it and Ouahabi at the far post can’t get there. Aleixandri wins a goal-kick down the other end and Stamford Bridge unites in a chorus of boos for Keating as she takes it.
James and Baltimore link up beautifully down the left, Aleixandri heads it away but not good enough by City and it’s a free header for Ramirez - but she skies it over the bar.
Shouts for a penalty by Chelsea as Cuthbert comes down in the box under pressure by Aleixandri, but no dice - so far, at least.
Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:26 , Flo Clifford25 mins: Immediately back down the other end and James thumps it straight to Keating. Ouahabi dispossesses Chelsea and sets off a counter-attack, with Kerolin taking her time before curling towards goal - but Hampton saves.
A good spell by City, Casparaij makes a great overlapping run but Bright is there to clear a sharp cross. Solid defending by Chelsea.
CHANCE! Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:22 , Flo Clifford21 mins: Chelsea are relentless, pushing City back up the pitch every time they try to string an attack together.
Casparij gets in a lovely curling cross but Fowler can’t get a header to it in time and Hampton collects, with the England keeper called in to make another great save from Fowler after Miedema flicks it on for her.
Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:19 , Flo Clifford17 mins: Only a little over 15 minutes gone and it’s been action-packed so far. Chelsea had five shots in the opening ten - this could be a long night for the visitors.
City are looking a bit panicked, playing some slopping passes and repeatedly conceding possession. Miedema gets the clearance to deny Rytting Kaneryd another cross into the box.
Baltimore plays a corner which City fail to properly clear. Walsh shoots but straight into Keating’s gloves.
GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Man City (agg 1-2)
20:16 , Flo Clifford13 mins: Breakthrough for Chelsea! First Bronze plays a lovely one-two and hits the post, then Baltimore slots in the rebound, knocking it in off the far post. Keating had no chance. Bompastor applauds calmly from the sidelines.
CHANCE! Chelsea 0-0 Man City (agg 0-2)
20:12 , Flo Clifford10 mins: Cuthbert now nicks it and plays a long pass forward and Ramirez, up front, tries to curl it towards goal but it bends wide. City were a bit lazy there in giving away possession.
End-to-end stuff as first Miedema darts through the box but has nowhere to go, and then Chelsea push forward themselves but can’t get the breakthrough.
Rytting Kaneryd finds James in space but Casparaij clears for a Chelsea corner - Baltimore delivers to Bjorn but she knocks it against the near post! Huge, huge chance.
Chelsea 0-0 Man City (agg 0-2)
20:07 , Flo Clifford6 mins: Chelsea win an early corner but Miedema - last week’s double goalscorer from the bench, in the starting line-up tonight - is there to clear, looking calm despite the early pressure.
Bronze plays a sloppy pass forward and Casparij nearly capitalises, running into space to collect, but plays a tame attempt straight to Hampton.
CHANCE! Chelsea 0-0 Man City (agg 0-2)
20:04 , Flo Clifford3 mins: City are pressing early. Kerolin tries to cross into the box but can only thump it against Baltimore.
Now Lauren James robs Prior, darts forward but slants her attempt just wide of the goal! Warning signs for City.
Chelsea 0-0 Man City (agg 0-2)
20:02 , Flo Clifford1 mins: After taking the knee against discrimination in the game, the visitors get us underway in this fourth meeting in 13 days between these two sides.
Chelsea 0-0 Man City (agg 0-2)
20:00 , Flo CliffordWhoever wins this tie will face reigning champions Barcelona in the semis after they thrashed Wolfsburg 6-1 earlier tonight (10-2 on aggregate). Ouch.
Here we go
19:58 , Flo CliffordThe teams are out on the pitch and we’re nearly ready to go at Stamford Bridge.

Bomastor wants Chelsea to have 'no regrets' against Man City
19:40 , Jamie BraidwoodSonia Bompastor believes Chelsea’s win against Manchester City on Sunday will help her team “mentally” as they attempt to come from behind tonight - and the French coach has told her players to have “no regrets” ahead of the second leg.
"It's always more difficult when you are losing by two goals, but we are confident, we are playing a home game,” said Bompastor, who suffered her first defeat in charge of Chelsea last week.
“It will be tough and difficult, we know that but we are ready to embrace the challenge. This is what the squad and the club are about.
"It's a new challenge. We have never been in this situation this season but we are ready. I just want my players at the end of the game to not have any regrets."

'You have to remain calm' - Millie Bright on chasing comeback
19:30 , Jamie BraidwoodArsenal manager Renee Slegers revealed last night that her half-time message to her players was to remain “calm” if they were to come from behind against Real Madrid.
And that’s exactly the word Millie Bright used as the Chelsea captain spoke about the challenge of coming from 2-0 down against Manchester City.
"It's a situation where you have to remain calm," Bright said. "If we look across our last performances there are plenty of positives.
"We're not in the position we would have liked to have been in but we're in it, so it's about reacting, understanding where we're at.
"We know what we need to do and we're very confident in ourselves. It's not an impossible turnaround."

Man City prepared for 'the most motivated, aggressive form of Chelsea'
19:20 , Jamie BraidwoodNick Cushing says Man City are prepared to face “the most motivated, aggressive form of Chelsea” in tonight’s Champions League quarter-final second leg.
"We know how important this competition is for Chelsea. We know what a great team they are,” Cushing said ahead of his latest encounter with Sonia Bompastor, a Champions League winner as a player and coach with Lyon.
"We know that Chelsea are going to be incredibly up for the game, incredibly motivated.
“When you bring in a manager that's previously won the Champions League, from the most successful women's team that has ever played the game, you're making your intentions known that the Champions League is probably the aim.”

Alex Greenwood says Man City players in ‘shock’ at Gareth Taylor departure
19:10 , Flo CliffordCity have had the added disruption of a new manager coming in just before this run of four fixtures against Chelsea, with Nick Cushing coming back in to replace Gareth Taylor, who was sacked on the eve of the League Cup final.
Cushing will be hoping the slightly-delayed new manager bounce will come into play as his side hope to build on their two-goal advantage from last week.

Team news - Chelsea
19:00 , Flo CliffordAnd five changes for Chelsea: Erin Cuthbert is rewarded for her 91st-minute winner off the bench at the weekend with a starting berth, while Keira Walsh also comes into the starting XI after a substitute appearance.
Nathalie Bjorn and Sandy Baltimore return to the back four and Aggie Beever-Jones is replaced up front by Mayra Ramirez.
Chelsea XI: Hampton; Bronze, Bjorn, Bright (c), Baltimore; Cuthbert, Walsh; Rytting-Kaneryd, Kaptein, James; Ramirez
Substitutes: Spencer, Cox, Lawrence, Charles, Nusken, Jean-Francois, Macario, Hamano, Brown, Beever-Jones
Team news - Manchester City
18:55 , Flo CliffordThree changes for City from their last meeting with Chelsea in the WSL, as Leila Ouahabi, Lily Murphy and Mary Fowler come into the side, while Aleixandri and Hasegawa are both fit to start.
City XI: Keating, Casparij, Prior, Aleixandri (C), Ouahabi, Hasegawa, Roord, Miedema, Kerolin Nicoli, Murphy, Fowler.
Substitutes: Startup, Layzell, Coombs, Wienroither, Park.
Bunny Shaw and Aoba Fujino ruled out of return leg
18:50 , Jamie BraidwoodAnd more... Manchester City’s record scorer Khadija Shaw and forward Aoba Fujino have been ruled out of tonight’s second leg at Stamford Bridge. The pair have been sidelined since picking up injuries in the League Cup defeat to Chelsea.
“It's not been ideal over the last two weeks to lose Bunny Shaw and Aoba Fujino, but you look at the group, they're still training incredibly hard,” said interim boss Nick Cushing, who has also been without Lauren Hemp and Alex Greenwood.
"I still see the belief. Across the three games I thought we had an incredible threat. I know we will tomorrow night."

What next?
18:46 , Flo CliffordThe winners of this tie will play reigning champions Barcelona, who swatted aside Wolfsburg 10-2 on aggregate and 6-1 in the second leg earlier tonight.
The semis will be played in the week of 19/20 April, with a spot in Lisbon’s final on Saturday 24 May up for grabs.
Team news incoming
18:40 , Flo CliffordWe’re expecting team news soon, with both sides expected to make changes.
Nathalie Bjorn, Sandy Baltimore, Keira Walsh, Mayra Ramirez and Erin Cuthbert could all make their way back into the starting XI for Chelsea, while Laia Aleixandri and Yui Hasegawa are doubts for the visitors after they were both forced off at the weekend.
Laura Blindkilde-Brown is expected to miss the rest of the season for City after injuring her ankle in training, and injured keeper Ayaka Yamashita will miss out after featuring in the first leg, with Khiara Keating between the sticks again after the WSL defeat this weekend.
Can Chelsea overturn the deficit?
18:30 , Flo CliffordChelsea bounced back from last week’s quarter-final first leg to come from behind at the Etihad against the same opponents, with Aggie Beever-Jones equalising and Erin Cuthbert scoring a 91st-minute winner. That result put the Blues eight points clear at the top of the WSL with five matches to go.
With the focus now back on Europe, Chelsea will feel confident despite the two-goal deficit. They have progressed from all of their previous five quarter-finals in the competition and are unbeaten in 16 home games under Sonia Bompastor.
‘A shame’: Women’s League Cup final pitch criticised as Chelsea beat Man City
18:15 , Flo CliffordOne thing that shouldn’t be an issue tonight is the pitch quality, but it’s an issue that’s cropped up frequently in women’s football in the last couple of weeks.
Sonia Bompastor added to the criticism of the Pride Park pitch that staged Chelsea’s victory over Manchester City in the Women’s League Cup final and said that she doubted a men’s final would be played under the same conditions.
The playing surface at Derby County’s stadium was noticeably poor after a long winter and demanding Championship season - with bare patches visible and creating an uneven bounce for the players. Chelsea defeated City 2-1 to win the first silverware of the campaign.

‘A shame’: Women’s League Cup final pitch criticised as Chelsea beat Man City
The key to Chelsea’s victory over Man City in League Cup final resulting in huge advantage
18:00 , Flo CliffordThe reaction from Sonia Bompastor may have said it all, on the day and ahead of the next two weeks. The Frenchwoman celebrated her first trophy at Chelsea with the mutest of celebrations, simply turning to her counterpart Nick Cushing and offering an outstretched hand. Like Chelsea’s performance against Manchester City in the League Cup final, it was business-like and professional. With three further rounds between these teams across the next 12 days, she knew there is more to come.
But the first blow was landed by Chelsea, the serial winners who lifted this trophy after three consecutive defeats in League Cup finals. Bompastor has built on what was left by Emma Hayes and could go further still, unbeaten now in 28 games this season, with one trophy down and a further three possible.

Inspiration from Arsenal?
17:45 , Flo CliffordChelsea may be looking to their rivals across London for inspiration to turn this tie around, after Arsenal overturned a 2-0 deficit from the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid.
A Russo double and a Caldentey header put the Gunners 3-0 up in the second half at the Emirates last night, with a record crowd cheering them on as they advanced to the semis. Sonia Bompastor’s Blues will be hoping for the same rousing support - and the same result - tonight at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal save their season as Chloe Kelly’s redemption sparks memorable comeback
Who wins this mini-series?
17:30 , Flo CliffordThese two sides must be sick of the sight of each other, with this their fourth successive meeting.
Chelsea have won two of the past three, winning 2-1 in the League Cup final and in the WSL, but City have the advantage from the first leg of this Champions League tie, which they won 2-0 at the Joie Stadium.
So Chelsea lead this series of duels head-to-head by 2-1 - but have to pull back at least two goals tonight.
Vivianne Miedema deals Chelsea first defeat of season as Man City seize first-leg lead
17:15 , Flo CliffordA recap of last week’s first leg at the Joie Stadium: Substitute Vivianne Miedema scored a brace as Manchester City inflicted Chelsea's first defeat of the season by beating them 2-0 in their Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Joie Stadium.
Miedema, having come off the bench for the start of the second half, put City in front on the hour mark, rifling in the rebound when Hannah Hampton tipped Laia Aleixandri's header against the crossbar.
And after Chelsea substitute Johanna Rytting Kaneryd had struck the bar at the other end in the 80th minute, Miedema added her second with two minutes of normal time remaining to give City a two-goal advantage heading into Thursday's second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Vivianne Miedema deals Chelsea first defeat of season as Man City seize control
Good afternoon
17:00 , Flo CliffordHello and welcome to live coverage of this Women’s Champions League quarter-final clash between two WSL behemoths, Chelsea and Manchester City.
It’s the second leg, and Chelsea have a two-goal deficit to pull back. Can they mimic Arsenal’s brilliant comeback last night at the Emirates? Let’s find out...
