The post-Graham Potter era at Stamford Bridge began with a 0-0 draw as Chelsea and Liverpool again proved unable to break the deadlock in what was a low-quality encounter.
It finished goalless between these two sides at Anfield earlier in the season, as it did in both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals after 120 minutes a year ago, and once more the scoresheet was untroubled in Chelsea’s first match since the managerial change. On early evidence, Bruno Saltor in interim charge will not result in a significant upturn in form.
Reece James and Kai Havertz both had goals ruled out, with the Blues much the better side for the majorty of the encounter, but that will be little consolation as they remain 11th in the Premier League. The draw is also a further dent to Liverpool’s top-four ambitions, as their struggles continue too.
