Chelsea trio set for Stamford Bridge goodbye as five fight for future under Todd Boehly takeover

Chelsea are set to embark upon one of their most important and significant transfer windows. Not only will they commence the post-Roman Abramovich era once Todd Boehly’s proposed takeover goes through, but they’ll also say goodbye to a couple of seasoned stalwarts.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are both set to leave the club when their contracts expire next summer. The former is expected to join Real Madrid whilst his defensive colleague has been widely tipped to join La Liga rivals Barcelona.

Marcos Alonso has also been heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp and should he depart as well it would leave Thomas Tuchel's side threadbare in defence. A sizable rebuild will need to be conducted under the new regime if the Blues are to remain competitive in the upper echelons of the Premier League and Europe.

However, the futures of a number of stars appear to be uncertain; Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic have both failed to establish themselves in Chelsea’s starting XI after big-money moves and could be off to pastures new in order to revitalise their careers. However, Werner has shown promise in the second half of the campaign but it remains to be seen if his recent revival will be enough to keep him in Tuchel’s plans going forward.

Meanwhile, Kepa Arrizabalaga has been the second choice goalkeeper since Edouard Mendy joined the club two seasons ago. The Spaniard has only made 15 appearances in all competitions this term, and with the Qatar World Cup looming he has a decision to make regarding his future if he wants to be part of Luis Enrique’s squad.

Jorginho’s future is also unclear, the Italy international has been a regular under Tuchel but with the 30-year-old approaching the final year of his contract; the club must decide whether to cash in or offer him a new deal. The constant links to Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham suggest the Blues already have one eye on the future.
