There may yet be a sting in the tail of the January transfer window for Chelsea.
For long spells of the mid-season market it appeared as though the European champions would strengthen their full-back options due to injuries for Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
However, no reinforcements have arrived at the back and instead links have started to surface regarding possible additions at the top end of the field.

Blues still want Dembele
According to Sport (h/t Sport Witness ), Chelsea remain in contention to sign Ousmane Dembele before the window closes.
Dembele's contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign and Barcelona have said they are actively trying to move him on this month.
Reports have suggested the France forward is happy to remain at the Camp Nou nevertheless, although it would appear unlikely that he will play for the club again before the end of the term.
Sport say Chelsea are "willing to sign" Dembele, although according to AS neither the Blues nor Paris Saint-Germain have approached Barcelona with a formal offer for the 24-year-old.
United in for Tchouameni
According to RMC Sport (h/t the Mirror ), Manchester United are ready to battle with Chelsea for the signing of Aurelien Tchouameni.
It's been reported recently that Monaco value the 22-year-old at £83 million, as he's developed into one of Ligue 1's rising stars.
Tchouameni is said to be being tracked by the Blues and United, as well as PSG, Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester City.
However, it has been reported United have made their move to sign the talented playmaker, holding talks with the midfielder's representatives. Monaco are said to be in no rush to sell Tchouameni though and he is under contract until 2024.
Chelsea to wait on Broja
According to Nathan Gissing of Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea will not make decision on Armando Broja's future in January.
The forward is showcasing his quality on loan at Southampton this season and speculation has simmered in recent weeks regarding a permanent bid from Saints.
Chelsea have Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner as options at the point of the attack, although neither have impressed this term on a consistent basis.
The 20-year-old has scored seven goals for Southampton this season and has caught the eye with his work-rate, physicality and hold-up play. Broja is a product of the Chelsea academy, having joined the Blues' youth setup as an eight-year-old.
