Chelsea transfer round-up: Conor Gallagher makes decision as third Wesley Fofana bid imminent

Thomas Tuchel has been frustrated with the way the transfer window has gone so far as he tries to revive a team that finished a distant third last season.

But an opening day grind over Everton appears to have focused minds at Stamford Bridge with the Blues boss given the green light to add to his three summer signings. With outgoing deals on the table for Timo Werner (RB Leipzig), Marcos Alonso ( Barcelona ), Kepa Arrizabalaga, Malang Sarr (Monaco) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (Dortmund or Southampton ) freeing up squad spaces, Tuchel has room to manoeuvre over the next two weeks.

And by the looks of things it could be a busy period with at least another three signings looking likely. Here Mirror Sport brings you the best of the Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip around.

Gallagher makes Chelsea decision

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher would prefer to stay at the club this summer despite links with other Premier League teams. The England international impressed on loan with Crystal Palace last season, earning himself a senior international call-up for the first time. And that spell has alerted several Premier League clubs to inquire about the possibility of another loan or a permanent move. But in his Caught Offside column transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims the midfielder believes he can fight his way into Chelsea’s first team picture this season.

Third Fofana bid expected

Chelsea are growing increasingly confident that they will be able to strike a deal to sign Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana. Caught Offside cite reports that the Blues are preparing a third bid after having £60million and £70m offers turned down. Tuchel looks set on the Foxes defender to add to Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella as summer deals. Leicester have no desire to sell Fofana, who they nursed through serious injury last season, but will part with their asset for a cash deal. And with PSG also interested they are confident of bumping Chelsea up another £10m to move to to Stamford Bridge and get the deal done.

Tuchel ready to go Dutch

The Guardian reports that Chelsea are in favour of signing Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries over Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters. According to the newspaper Chelsea are looking to strengthen the right wing back area and the Netherlands international is their top target. And while there is every confidence in Reece James, Tuchel wants quality back up in a position crucial to his system.

Ronaldo deal not ruled out

Chelsea could still make a shock move for Cristiano Ronaldo before the transfer window closes according to GiveMeSport. The Manchester United man has been left frustrated this summer by his club insisting he fulfil the last 12 months of contract at Old Trafford. He had been hoping the Blues were going to offer him a route out of the club and back to playing Champions League football, with United not qualifying for the competition for this year. If this report can be believed the Portugal superstar could be given an exit route to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile The Independent are instead reporting Chelsea are considering signing former Arsenal man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona. According to the online newspaper, both Manchester United and Chelsea have been offered the chance to bring the Gabon international back to the Premier League in the ongoing transfer window. Aubameyang left Arsenal this past winter to join Barcelona in a free transfer but could be on the move again after just six months.
