Chelsea transfer news: Tammy Abraham reveals Reece James messages over potential return

Tammy Abraham has received messages from his former Chelsea team-mate Reece James calling for him to return to the club.

The Roma striker has spoken out on his future following another fine season in Italy, in which he hopes to fire the Giallorossi to the Europa League final when they face Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday.

As the second year of Abraham’s Serie A stay comes to an end, he believes the decision to leave Chelsea has been vindicated.

“Just before I left Chelsea, [Fikayo] Tomori went to AC Milan and we talked a lot,” he told TMW.

“I remember the phone calls, none of us could believe what was happening. We had been at Chelsea our whole lives and in a moment we were walking away.

“Everything I knew was Chelsea apart from a few loan moves, but even now I think it was the right time to leave. I was ready to take a step forward in my career, I didn't want to be considered a youngster or a player who had just come from the academy. It was time for me to spread my wings.

“I still talk to so many Chelsea players, James always tells me to come back. We grew up together and have known each other for years - players like [Mason] Mount, [Declan] Rice and [Eddie] Nketiah.”

Manchester United and Newcastle are among the clubs tipped to bid for Abraham this summer.

Following the birth of his first child earlier this year, the 25-year-old has suggested he will make a decision on his future when the season ends.

“This could be the best year of my life so far and I want to make that a reality,” he said. “It would be great to win something again with Roma and who knows what the future will hold.”
