Chelsea transfer news: Riyad Mahrez interest, Matthijs de Ligt price and Jorginho's future

The last few weeks have been somewhat of an unmitigated disaster for Chelsea fans. Bad results in the Premier League and Champions League have seen them fall completely out of the picture for those trophies, with only the FA Cup now to play for.

After all that has happened to the club within the past few months, ending the season with a top-four spot and an FA Cup might feel moderately successful, but it certainly promised to bring so much more at the beginning of the campaign.

There are continued updates around the club's ownership as prospective bidders line up to take control after Roman Abramovich. The takeover will no doubt impact how Chelsea can operate in this summer's transfer window with a view to improving Thomas Tuchel's squad.

Fans will be hoping that the ownership situation is sorted out as soon as possible, giving Chelsea as much time to prepare for the off-season with a number of players set to leave and replacements needed.

Here is a round-up of the latest transfer news and rumours:

Chelsea eyeing Riyad Mahrez

FootMercato have reported that Chelsea are keying in on signing Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez.

Chelsea are joined by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan in the race for the Algeria international, whose contract will expire in 2023.

Mahrez is City's top scorer this season, with 23 goals in all competitions.

He remains close friends with N'Golo Kante after their time together at Leicester City.

Chelsea considering Matthijs de Ligt transfer

Italian outlet Calciomercato says Juventus have slapped a huge price tag on Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt, with Chelsea reportedly very interested in bringing him in this summer. De Ligt started off slowly in Italy but has now established himself as Juventus' top centre-back, with the Turin side struggling in recent seasons.

But the Italian giants have slapped an £83.6 million price tag on De Ligt to prise him away. Chelsea will be in the market for more than one centre-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all looking likely to leave once their contracts expire on July 1.

According to a report from Tuttosport, Chelsea are willing to pay the price for the highly-rated Dutchman.

Jorginho future revealed amid Juventus links

Jorginho's agent has insisted that he has held no talks with Juventus and states that the Italian midfielder will remain with Chelsea.

Jorginho has been regularly linked with a return to Italy for the last year, following Italy's success at Euro 2020 and the big part he played in it.

No move happened last summer or in January, but there have been numerous reports regarding interest from Juventus, who are keen to reinvent their midfield for Maximiliano Allegri this summer.

He told

: "Negotiation with Juve? Given this situation and that Chelsea are without a buyer, he 100% (Jorginho) remains in London."
