Chelsea transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino eyes £38m star as Brighton make Levi Colwill decision

Your morning Chelsea transfer roundup on Tuesday, July 4.

Tino Livramento links

Chelsea have held talks with Southampton over a potential deal for their former right back Tino Livramento that would entail loaning him back, according to The Daily Mail.

Southampton value the 20-year old at £38million and have been rejecting offers from Newcastle United over the past week. They also wanted to have the England U21 international in their ranks for next season after his last campaign in the Premier League was blighted by injury.

Chelsea sold Livramento to Southampton for £8m which also included a hefty sell on percentage. The approach comes as a surprise with Reece James and new signing from Lyon Malo Gusto already on their books.

Moises Caicedo transfer alternative

Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for just £34million this summer. The Blues are currently in talks with Brighton regarding a deal to sign Moises Caicedo, but Milinkovic-Savic could prove to be the perfect cheap alternative.

Considering Chelsea have already parted ways with N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, it could see the Blues look to sign more than one new central midfielder ahead of next season. A report from CaughtOffside has now revealed that Milinkovic-Savic has been offered to the west Londoners as he enters the final 12 months of his contract with Lazio.

Former Blues player Mateja Kezman is the Serbian midfielder's agent and this could help the Blues negotiate a deal that would see the 28-year-old move to Stamford Bridge this summer. The report adds that Chelsea like Milinkovic-Savic and are ready to consider him as one potential option to strengthen their midfield.

Caicedo and Southampton talent Romeo Lavia are thought to be more of a priority for the Blues, but Milinkovic-Savic represents a cheap alternative and could be the perfect partner for Enzo Fernandez in midfield. The Serbian international has impressed during his time in Italy and is regarded as a strong box-to-box midfielder.

Brighton switch Levi Colwill transfer focus

Brighton have identified Ajax defender Calvin Bassey as a transfer alternative to Chelsea talent Levi Colwill. The Blues defender enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Seagulls last term - helping them qualify for European football.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to work with Colwill next season and sees the youngster as a key player moving forward at Stamford Bridge. Brighton had hoped to sign the 20-year-old this summer with Roberto De Zerbi ready to break the club's record transfer fee to complete a deal for the Chelsea star.

However, the Blues are reportedly unwilling to part ways with Colwill ahead of next season which has now forced the Seagulls to consider alternative targets. Bassey has now emerged as a strong candidate with talks to sign Colwill proving difficult, according to The Athletic.

Brighton were interested in Bassey last summer, when the versatile 23-year-old joined Ajax from Rangers for £18.7million. Signing a left-sided central defender who can also play at left-back to act as cover for Pervis Estupinan is a priority in the summer transfer window for Brighton.

Brighton's move for Colwill was separate to negotiations with the Blues over a deal for Caicedo and it now seems the Seagulls have adjusted their focus to securing Bassey's signature. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea plan to offer Colwill a bumper new contract and extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
