Chelsea transfer frustration is leading to ‘panic’ from co-owner Todd Boehly, says Jamie Carrahger

Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is “panic” buying this summer.

It has been a frustrating transfer window for the club even despite the big-name arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, with a number of targets moving elsewhere.

The departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen deprive Thomas Tuchel of two of his key players last season and the German has already admitted he is worried about the commitment of some of his squad.

Having seen their title challenge collapse and season peter out rather prematurely last time out, there is a need to freshen up the options available to Tuchel, although multiple pursuits have failed.

Chelsea are still attempting to add to their frontline, midfield, defence and wing-back options, with their bid to sign Marc Cucurella taking another twist on Wednesday.

Brighton denied they had reached an agreement to sell the Spanish international, only adding to the frustration.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Overlap in partnership with Sky Bet, Carragher said: “I think the way most football clubs are run now, it’s a lot more organised, a lot more sort of, you know, who you want, it’s not sort of these panic things that used to happen in the past and people just go buy and you’d look at it.

“I look at a couple of things Chelsea do and I’m just thinking, is it a panic because you haven’t bought someone and you gotta get someone. You bought Ben Chilwell for 50 million and then you’re trying to get another left back, like you didn’t want them a month ago, you want them now.”
