Chelsea told the ‘dream’ Thomas Tuchel managerial replacement after failed takeover attempt

Former Chelsea defender John Terry has said that it is his ‘dream’ to be named as Blues boss as he attempts to kick-start his managerial career. The ex-defender is currently back at the club in an academy consultancy role having previously been named as a coach with Aston Villa.

Terry has previously never hidden his aspirations of following Frank Lampard’s lead of managing the reigning European champions. It appeared that he was previously set to go even higher as he reportedly put together a consortium after Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale.

Terry’s group has seemingly not been named as preferred bidders but that has not deterred the 41-year-old from fulfilling his managerial aspirations but did insist that the opportunity could be some time away..

Speaking with Stadium Astro, he said: “Yeah, that’s my dream [managing Chelsea]. Obviously, when you’re a kid you want to play in the first team. As a coach, I’ve shifted this way now.

“The long-term ambition and goal is to be Chelsea manager, of course. That feels a little bit funny saying that because someone’s in the job and listen, we are still talking ten, 15 years down the line maybe.

“But I have to have an end goal and that’s it. It’s my dream. Hopefully, it happens. I’m on the process of doing that but a lot of things that have to go very well for me.

“So, I’m being very patient in the decisions I’m making in my next step in terms of management. But being back at Chelsea is very pleasing for me. It was quite emotional when I first drove in.”

It appears unlikely that Terry will not have his aspirations met any time soon with current boss Thomas Tuchel having impressed since he took the reins from Frank Lampard. The former Paris Saint-Germain man has led the Blues to the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup titles in the time since.
