Chelsea told key area Christopher Vivell will improve following technical director appointment

Todd Boehly is continuing to shake up things behind the scenes at Chelsea with Christopher Vivell now being confirmed the latest appointment to their recruitment team as technical director. He was previously responsible for recruitment at RB Leipzig.

football.london understood that Vivell joining Chelsea had been in place since October, but the formalities preventing an announcement have now been cleared. The 36-year-old began his new role just a few weeks before the January transfer window and has wasted little time in getting to work.

The Blues are on the verge of completing two new signings with David Datro Fofana set to complete a £10.5million move to Stamford Bridge from Molde. Brazilian talent Andrey Santos is also expected to join Chelsea in a deal worth around £17.5million from Vasco da Gama.

Since Boehly's arrival there has been a clear focus on recruiting young talents that can develop with the club and become a part of the senior squad moving forward. Carney Chukwuemeka, Gabriel Slonina, Cesare Casadei and Omari Hutchinson all joined the club in the summer and the focus on youth is set to continue heading into January.

Vivell becomes the latest appointment to a recruitment team that has already seen Joe Shields, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart announced since Boehly completed his takeover. Leeds manager Jesse Marsch worked with Vivell during his time at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, and is fully aware of the strengths that the technical director has when it comes to signing players.

When asked about Vivell's move to Stamford Bridge in his pre-Manchester City press conference, the Leeds boss responded: "I worked with Chris [Vivell] at Salzburg and at Leipzig.

"I think his greatest asset is his recruitment ability. He's assessed a lot of talent over the years and found really good players, that's really what his bread and butter has been.

"I consider him a friend, I'm happy for him. I wish him all the best."

It wasn't so long ago that the Blues were looking at Leeds chief Victor Orta to become a member of their backroom staff. Marsch's comments hint that Chelsea have made a good move bringing Vivell into the structure Boehly is creating behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge as they aim to sign players that can make an instant impact along with protecting the future success of the club.
