Chelsea piled the misery on Leeds United fans by openly mocking their relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season, calling back to a dig that had been sent the other way towards the beginning of the season.
Back in August, Leeds had mocked Chelsea with a screenshot of their Twitter feed from the Whites’ 3-0 victory at Elland Road. Chelsea had tweeted ‘starting to assert ourselves!’ on 30 minutes, with both of their next two tweets reporting goals for Leeds: one for Brenden Aaronson and one for Rodrigo.
Leeds United had screenshotted that with the caption ‘Life comes at you fast’ – and Chelsea finally hit back on Sunday afternoon after Leeds’ relegation was confirmed, quote-tweeting it with the message ‘It certainly does.’

It’s a bit rich for Chelsea to be mocking anybody after a season where they finished in the bottom half for the first time since 1996, behind Brentford, Fulham and Crystal Palace – but you’ve got to get your kicks where you can, we suppose.
Chelsea have dismissed both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter this season, with Frank Lampard returning to the club as caretaker manager last month. The club have won just one of their 11 games in all competitions under the former midfielder, with Leeds the only side to have picked up fewer points in the end-of-season run-in.
Leeds’ relegation was sealed on the final day by Everton’s victory over Bournemouth, while Leicester City beat West Ham United and Sam Allardyce’s side lost 4-1 at home to Tottenham. Chelsea drew 1-1 at home to fourth-placed Newcastle United.
