Chelsea suffer injury concern as Graham Potter loses key defender prior to Aston Villa friendly

Chelsea have been handed yet another injury concern with Trevoh Chalobah absent from the side for today's friendly against Aston Villa in Abu Dhabi.

The centre-back was named in the starting XI for the friendly by Graham Potter but was missing from the warm-up and replaced in the starting XI by youngster Alfie Gilchrist.

Since stepping into the side for the injured Wesley Fofana in the home Champions League victory over AC Milan, Chalobah has been arguably Chelsea's standout performer. And his form prior to the World Cup break was rewarded with the 23-year-old signing a new six-year contract.

"I’m over the moon to sign this contract. It’s been an honour every time I put the shirt on. I want to give my all and do anything for this club. As everyone knows I’ve been here from a young age and to continue here is every kid’s dream. Whenever I get the chance, I’ll give my all for the club and look for the future ahead."

Chalobah isn't the only senior star that Potter hasn't been able to call upon for this afternoon's friendly.

In addition to those players still at – or yet to return – from the World Cup, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Ben Chilwell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Carney Chukwuemeka and N'Golo Kante are all absent as they continue their respective recoveries from injuries.
